*, didn't think they'd be as low either.

Still, shows the magnitude of the task. I hope to * we rattle them early doors and get in at HT with a 2-0 lead, that'd be magic.

    * *,! Is it wrong that I think I get what this nutter is saying and actually think I might agree with him?

The pressing game is what's killing us in Europe. Defending the halfway line is how i'd go about it. Get some pace out there, wait for them to push out, win the ball and counter. What they don't like - pace. So the only other obvious changes would be to bring on Boerrigter and Pukki. Problem with Pukki is, anything that falls to his left foot, he misses. I expect he'll start, but i'd be tempted to have an offensive formation that can turn defensive as quickly as possible and i'd sacrifice a bit of width, i.e. "hugging the touchline", for putting Stokes and Griffiths in an area where it's easier for them to get back and they have the option of going outside or inside when we break.

    * knows man. I don't really hold a lot of confidence that Deila and Collins will change it down to their own * mindedness that the philosophy is better than the result. It needs to be win at all costs, and that's gonna involve doing to them what they would gladly do to us. We can do this. But we need to put the fear right up them and amp up the crowd. Hopefully we can do that. I was thinking maybe something like this, although it will not happen.

    Stokes Commons Griffiths
    Johansen McGeough Matthews
    Izzy Mulgrew VVD Lustig

Defending from the half way line it could look like this:

    Commons
    Johansen Stokes McGeough Griffiths Matthews
    Izzy Mulgrew VVD Lustig

this whole tie has been an embarrassment on every level. I actually really like Poland (because I've worked with so many Poles, some of whom were pretty amazing guys) and this couldn't have gone much worse.

    1) We were emphatically beaten on and off the pitch if Zaluska said their atmosphere left our players in a state of shock and if predictions about attendance at Murrayfield are correct.

    2) Our board have shown the same contempt to our Polish fans as they do to Scottish and Irish ones. All the more embarrassing given that all the empty seats in our away section made it look like we have no fans in Poland (understandably only a few hundred were ever going to make the trip from Scotland and Ireland).

    3) Some of the political rhetoric from Legia fans on here has put me right off their club. I just logged on this morning to find even more. It hurts twice as much to get beaten by a club like this.

    4) Some of the comments from Celtic fans on this thread (about how supposedly * Legia are and how we are too big a club to lose to teams like that) make us look like a real bunch of petulant children. A couple of members have posted comments that were borderline xenophobic about Polish people, the latest being the "dole" comment above. Embarrassing.

All in all what a horrible tie. :54:

Saw someone say that we have to turn up and support the team so it doesn't end up like a legia home game, from staying in Edinburgh let me tell you when anything polish comes to town is a home game :smiley-laughing002:

What we need is a giant slice of luck and we're gonna have to be brave and fired right up for the tie. We need one-on-one scenarios with the last defender or the goalkeeper who likes to come off his line. Moments like that can turn this tie on it's head. No point sitting moping around thinking we can't do it, as impossible as it looks. It's a manifestation of 90 minutes, don't let go. We just need to go out and play them off the park.

The problem here is Legia do not need to come out so they will sit back & hit us on the break, with us pushing forward will leave big gaps for them to run into

If Ronny plays Mulgrew at centre back, i can't see us scoring 3 goals without conceding as they will kill him for pace

We need a partnership of lustig and vvd at the back with mulgrew out of the team.

Personally, that's what I'd go with. Others would have their own but we'll need as many attacking options on the pitch as we can, I trust Virgil and Lustig to hold the fort at the back now that they know what they're up against and allow Izzy and Matthews to bomb forward. Also have the option of bringing on Boerrigter for the last half hour for Commons. People will laugh at that but I honestly believe if he's given a decent amount of time this game could be the making of both him and Stokes. We'll need them all to be 100% though, of course.

Will be tighter than a ducks * but as we get closer to Wednesday I'm getting more and more optimistic that this one isn't a lost cause and we can actually pull it out the bag.

I've read through just about all of this thread. Just wanted to say - although celtic were very poor Legia played very well. Their front three were excellent - some real pace, skill and speed of thought up front. Congratulations to Legia on the way they played. I like Polish people - they are fighters and brave - very much like Scots people. We should respect each other - we have a lot in common. So I think that celtic will need a miraculous performance to turn it around - but we have done this before.

I have to say though that we have some utter mediocrity in our team. Charlie Mulgrew is never a football player in a million years. He is rank rotten - sometimes ok-ish - and it pains me to see him run out in a celtic strip. He gave away 2 pens and was missing in action for 2 goals. He has no balance, no vision, no skill and is basically just a big slow pair of size 11s lumbering about the pitch waiting to mess something up.

But the biggest dissapointment was the fact that we looked even more mediocre under Romnie than Lenny. * was that? Sure there's a lack of spending - but I had hoped that Ronnie would have made some really intelligent tweaks to that team to add a bit of pace and creativity. But it was grey, average, slow and ponderous all over the park. If this is a sigh of things to come I fear that the self fulfilling prophesy will come true. If the club is managed for poverty and cash preservation as it is being - this will eventually become exactly what we are because fans will not pay to see that. It is true - the board will need to wake up to a potential melt down this year.

    1. Ok, I didn't know that. Just got a glimpse of this on the internet, didn't read a whole thing. So you're probably right, most of them will be random Poles :) About that getting knocked out of the champions league.. Legia is always better away so :D

    2. I'm not underestimating, saw lots of your matches before, when Boruc was a goalie and you're right, atmosphere is great, slightly different than in Poland, cause you have many songs :) I think that's the second main reason why we were glad when we draw Celtic :)
