he is rubbish deep and/or wide. He is a guy who can play 2nd stiker, the hole position or left in a 4-3-3. Thats all. He should not even be considered wide left in a 4-4-2 cause he just cant play that position. He is deadly in a bit and farther forward but he doesnt have the pace or dribbling skills to do anything more than 25 yards out and he doesnt have the stamina to work up and down the line. I dont want to see him there again even if Aidan is injured. We need to buy new pacey wide players. I would still love to see deeks as a striker for 5 or 6 games back to back, if he does it great, if he doesnt then let him go.

I am sorry Mike but I don't even understand what this post means.

    Is Riordan pish ?

Are you saying that after tonight we have proof that Riordan isn't good enough ?

You do seem to be writing off Riordan.

Sorry mate but I find your post a bit cryptic.

Riordan was no worse than carthorse JVOH.

Bet JVOH is playing next week....Why?

O.K. Scored a goal. Contributed nothing else for a multi million pound player. When Deeks is as bad as this passenger then knock him. Until then give the guy a break..?

I think what mikec's trying to say is that the life of a football pro is tough. there are many players for only a few spots battling and fighting. you need to be ready any time and some players only get 1-2 chances to prove themselves - if they fail, there are enough players in the queue waiting to take their places.

Tonight was a chance for Riordan to prove himself that he earns a starting XI place. I didn't see the game but according to yous he didn't play great. It doesn't matter if the others didn't perform great either, because their place is certain, whereas riordan still has to earn it. sure it would have helped him if his teammates played well, but that's riordan's problem.

How I said, it's a "tough" life, you need to be ready when the manager wants/needs you. Looks like he missed the beat.

But there will come more opportunities to prove himself.. probably not many though.

deeks set up mcdonalds goal as well... if he scored the penalty you would be saying the exact opposite nearly scored first half as well

productive for a player thats not had first team football for a year and a bit i would say?

last game he played for us he set up 3 st mirren i think?

    so shut yer pie hole:50:

If you have been able to take all of that from Mike's post then fair play to you. Your powers of interpretaion are better than mine.

All of what you say above is reasonable, but it is based on a flawed premise. That premise being that had Riordan played well he'd keep his place in the team. Riordan has done well in his few games so far and still found himself on the bench.

So he has not done well enough for Strachan? If that's not the case, what's your analysis of that situation?

I spose he has not done well enough, that's why he's on the bench. I get the impression you feel he's done well enough to have earned a starting place respectively he should be playing more.

In the broader picture I feel Strachan doesn't know what his best team really is. I feel that he plays players out of position more than he needs to and I feel that we don't always get the best out of what we have at our disposal. Deeks is an example of that.

I also believe that there is a personal issue between WGS and Riordan which affects Riordan's number of appearances. If there is a personal issue then they either have to get over it or agree not to get over it and Riordan leaves.

Maybe that's where we are going wrong. Too many players expect to be playing "next week". Not enough fighting for places in the squad. Lack of quality cover?
