Call of Duty: Black Ops 3

Activision have officially announced Black Ops 3 via their Twitter account. An event will be held on the 26th of this month where the first details will be revealed.

A teaser video was released earlier today, which pretty much all but confirmed another Black Ops sequel. The video hasn't been uploaded to YouTube, but for anyone who want's to watch it, here's a link to a Gameinformer article which includes said video.

It's really unlikely, but I hope this isn't like Black Ops 2. A Cold War era game like the original Black Ops would be much more interesting than another pseudo sci-fi game like the sequel.

Deus Ex: Mankind Divided

One of the directors for the game has revealed the official, and apparently final, box art/cover for the game.

I might be reading a bit much into it, but I wouldn't be surprised if come E3 we find out that Sony has some sort of exclusive content deal for this game. The fact that picture above is of the PS4 version, combined with the fact that the Playstation YouTube channel is only one of two places where the trailer has been officially uploaded, seems to suggest some sort of deal.

Lego Dimensions

This probably isn't of interest to the majority of us on here, but I thought it was worth mentioning for anyone with kids.

Warner Bros. have announced a Lego styled Skylanders/Disney Infinity game developed by Travelers Tales, the studio responsible for the majority of Lego games.

IGN have given a quick rundown of the sort of characters/worlds that'll appear in the game (the full article which includes prices can be read here)

The game is reported to blend together several universes, namely, DC Comics, The Lord of the Rings, The LEGO Movie, The Wizard of Oz, LEGO Ninjago, Back to the Future, and others.

Uncharted Trilogy PS4 (?)

A Swedish retailer, CeDe, has removed a listing from their website which suggested that a PS4 re-release of the Uncharted Trilogy is set to release on the 30th September. There's some doubt surrounding the validity because they apparently used a fan made cover for the box art image.

For what it's worth, a PS4 re-release for the Uncharted Trilogy has been rumoured for a while.

So glad to hear we're getting another Deus Ex and that Michael Mccann is doing the music, the guy is a genius. Human Revolution had it's little flaws but people have to remember it was trying to follow Deus Ex 1 which is regarded as the greatest game ever made.

Mankind divided is running on the new Glacier engine which looks amazing, the CGI is done by the same company who do it for Final Fantasy, it'll be next-gen to say the least, it even supports tressfx 3.0 and dx12 on PC.

Deus ex mankind dived is apperently going to lead up to the events of the original deus ex so hopefully they'll do a reboot of the original after that because despite it being highly rated i dont think that many people actually played it so it would be great for console gamers like myself to experience the original story.

Yep people are saying the grey hexagons in the trailer represent the grey death which wouldn't be surprising, HR had a gold theme/tint throughout but MD is silver so it'll tie in somehow. Hopefully we see the formation of the NSF and the destruction of the Statue of Liberty.

It'd be great if they ported the original but it also runs on any laptop and the whole game is on youtube in a movie version. I only played it last year, it was made in 2000 and it hasn't aged well but nothing can touch the story, atmosphere or the level design it's the greatest game ever made without a doubt.

There's been quite a bit of gaming news in the last week or so, including a few game reveals and a high profile cancellation.

Batman: Arkham Knight

A new trailer has been released which has revealed the new 'Dual-Play' feature, which allows players to swap between Batman and other characters during gameplay. I'm not sure if this is limited to certain scenarios, or if it extends to free-roam, but it looks interesting none the less.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 3

So, Black Ops 3 got it's big reveal on the 26th. They released a couple of trailers (one an actual gameplay trailer, the other a live action teaser) and a whole bunch of information.

Unfortunately I couldn't find a nice short summary of all the information, so instead i'm trying to summarise this article by IGN

General Information:

The basic premise of the game is that soldiers are now sort of Deus Ex-ish, in that they're augmenting their body with robotic parts and weaponry; ultimately becoming less human

The game will be available on PC, PS3, PS4, Xbox One and the 360

Pre-orders will grant you access to a beta on PC, PS4 and the One

The release date is currently the 6th November 2015

Campaign:

Here's IGN's rundown of the story

Black Ops 3 is set in 2060. 35 years after the drone strikes in Black Ops 2, the world’s leaders have developed DEAD (Directed Energy Air Defense) systems, which make air superiority useless. Military strength shifts back to “boots on the ground.”

DNI (Direct Neural Interface) technology gives soldiers complete control over their physiology. It also allows them to integrate with computer systems, including enhanced cybernetic limbs. For a squad of Black Ops soldiers, DNI allows them to communicate and coordinate faster than ever before.

At the beginning of the game, a Black Ops team is sent to a CIA site in Singapore. For the first time ever, contact with them is lost. What follows is the largest leak of military intelligence in history. This is where the campaign begins.

Multiplayer:

EXO-Suits will not be returning, instead being replaced with 'Thruster Packs'

You no longer play as generic soldiers, instead being prompted to pick a 'specialist' character before each match (so it sounds more class based than previous games).

You can't change specialist's during matches. Although it sounds like you may have multiple load outs per character

Four of these 'specialists' have been revealed so far

Ruin’s weapons are Gravity Spikes, which allow him to leap through the air and slam down on his target with an area-of-effect shockwave. His power, Overdrive, greatly accelerates all movement for a short time.

Seraph’s (my personal favorite) weapon is the Annihilator, a huge, high-caliber revolver that kills enemies in one shot and has penetration rounds. If you can line up two enemies, you’ll take them both out. Her ability is Combat Focus, which triggers a bonus multiplier to score steak points.

Outrider’s weapon is the Sparrow, a compound bow with explosive bolts. Her ability is Vision Pulse, which expands out from the player, tagging all enemies’ locations and allowing you to see them through walls.

Reaper is a killer robot. His weapon is the scythe, a minigun that emerges from his arm. His ability, Glitch, allows him to flash back to wherever he was a few seconds ago.

DiRT Rally

Gears of War - Xbox One Remaster(?)

Mass Effect 4

A possible leak has occurred via an online survey,which provides a bit of detail about the games setting and gameplay. The respondent was supposedly asked about their satisfaction about each of the proposed elements of the game.

It may seem a bit suspect, but Dragon Age Inquisition was also leaked in a similar manner. The title and characters were revealed about two years before the actual game had launched, and ultimately forced BioWare to announce the game early.

Here's the details anyway (and the original Reddit source)

The Next Mass Effect Context:

The next Mass Effect game takes place in the Helius Cluster (a cluster of 100s of solar systems in the Andromeda Galaxy), far removed by time and space from Commander Shepard’s heroic acts and the final events of the Mass Effect trilogy. You are a pathfinder, a combat trained but un-tested explorer leading an expedition into the Helius cluster to establish a new home for humanity. As you explore this sprawling series of solar systems (over 4x the size of Mass Effect 3), collecting resources and building colonies, you will encounter the savagery of untamed lands in the form of cut-throat outlaws and warring alien races. To survive and colonize the wild reaches of space, you will need to grow your arsenal, your ship, your crew and make strategic (and often uneasy) alliances to fight against increasingly menacing foes. Along the way, you will encounter the remains of a once powerful and mysterious alien race, the Remnant, whose forgotten technology holds the key to gaining power in this region of the galaxy. As you uncover who the Remnant were, and the mysteries their ruins contain, you are drawn into a violent race to find the source of their forgotten technology that will determine the fate of humanity.

Collect Resources to Fuel your Growth:

Scour solar systems and planets within the Helius Cluster to find valuable resources and blueprints of long forgotten alien technology that will allow you to craft better equipment and weapons, such as improving your leg armor to allow you to jetpack jump, or upgrading your cryo-beam (laser cannon) to target enemies or do area damage around you to clear out close threats. As you build your arsenal and resource infrastructure, you will be able to explore deeper into the increasingly dangerous and resource-rich solar systems of the Helius Cluster.

A Capable Crew:

Throughout the story, you will recruit seven distinct crew members to fight by your side. Each crew member has a unique personality and specific abilities that open up strategic options as you choose which two of them to bring into each mission. For example, Cora has the ability to deploy a biotic shield that protects everyone in the bubble while still allowing you and your squad to fire out of it. Your crew will grow alongside you as you explore the Helius Cluster, and you can choose how you upgrade your crew’s weapons, gear and abilities to increase their individual combat effectiveness. Create the perfect squad to react to any situation and to support your preferred gameplay style.

Your Crew, Your Story:

Your crew members aren’t merely hired guns – they are part of the living universe in the Helius Cluster that develops in response to your actions and choices. Increase each crew member’s loyalty by pursuing missions that are important to that specific character. For example, when a Krogan colony ship has been stolen by one of the outlaw factions leaving the colonists stranded without resources to survive, your Krogan squad mate, Drack, is determined to strike out against them. If you take the mission and help him track down the outlaws’ hideout to return the ship to its rightful owners, Drack’s loyalty toward you and your squad will increase and Drack will unlock a brand new skill tree.

Explore each individual’s backstory and develop your relationship with them through conversations and unique missions. True to Mass Effect, what you choose to say will directly affect your crew’s loyalty and relationship with you, and will open up different conversations and narrative opportunities at the end of the game depending upon how you approach each encounter.

Deployed Strike Team Missions:

The Helius Cluster is 1000s of light years across, and you can’t be everywhere at once. As you develop more colonies, resource bases and settlements, you have to be able to keep them safe. Spend resources to recruit mercenaries and develop an AI controlled Strike Team that you can deploy to take on randomly generated, time-sensitive missions. Strike Team missions take many forms, including settlement defense and Remnant
artifact recovery, which will take real-time to complete. Send your Strike Team out on a mission while you continue playing the main game and they will return, 20 – 30 minutes later, having gained rewards such as XP, currency and equipment based on the success of their mission. Spend money and resources to train your Strike Team and acquire better gear for them, which will increase their success rate and allow them to take on more difficult missions for greater rewards.

Active Strike Team Missions:

When you encounter a Strike Team mission in the Single-Player mode, you can leave your Strike Team at their base and decide to tackle the mission yourself with your Multiplayer roster of characters. You also have the option of tackling the mission by yourself, or recruiting up to three friends to play with you. The more friends you bring, the greater the challenge and the greater the reward. These missions will play out using the Next Mass Effect’s multiplayer Horde mode (more details on this later). These missions will include a variety of thematically appropriate objectives, like defending a Settlement against Khet attacks, or recovering a Remnant artifact off of a planet before an outlaw gang gets there first. By taking an active role in strike team missions, you can earn special Single-player rewards in addition to the usual multiplayer specific characters, weapons, weapon mods, and pieces of equipment which can be customized between missions. Additionally, players who join another person’s Strike Team mission will receive bonus in-game currency and multiplayer XP for helping others with their missions.

Multiplayer “Horde” Mode:

The next Mass Effect’s “Horde” multiplayer pits you and up to three of your friends against waves of enemy troops on various battlefields throughout the galaxy. Players fight together to survive increasingly difficult enemy attacks and accomplish objectives, like disabling a bomb near a colony base or assassinating a target. Progress through multiplayer missions to gain XP and earn new multiplayer specific weapons, characters, weapon mods, and pieces of equipment, which can be customized between matches. Multiplayer play will also earn you APEX funds (in-game currency), which can be used to purchase items and gear in the Single Player game.

Establish Settlements:

Search solar systems for rare habitable planets to establish a settlement that could serve as a base for humankind’s new home in the Helius Cluster. As you build permanent settlements, you will make strategic choices on where to focus your new base’s resources. For example: Recon Settlements will clear fog of war from the space map and give the player more strike team missions to choose from, while Mining Settlements will periodically supplement the player’s supply of crafting materials.

Dialogue:

Building upon the rich history of strategic dialogue that has defined the Mass Effect series, you can make meaningful choices in every conversation you have with characters that impact the way your game evolves. The next Mass Effect adds deeper control over your conversations through a greater ability to interrupt and change the course of the conversation as it is happening. During certain conversations, you will be able to take action based choices, such as the option to pull out your gun and force someone to open a door instead of convincing them to do it through conversational guile. Action based choices give you more options for how you approach dialogue with characters in the game and can lead to more extreme outcomes on the story as it evolves around the decisions you make when interacting with a huge cast of NPC characters.

Seamlessly Travel Through the Next Mass Effect Universe:

As you pilot your space ship, Tempest, across the 100s of solar systems that are seamlessly connected in the next Mass Effect, you will encounter new planets filled with valuable resources, intelligent life, conflict, and alien technology that all give you opportunities to increase the power of your character, your ship and your team so that you can build them into a force that perfectly suits your gameplay style. Transitions between activities, like flying your Tempest (space ship) across a solar system to land on a mineral rich planet, then jumping into your Mako (land vehicle) to explore the surface of planet, all happen smoothly without loading screens.

Customize and Share Your Experience:

Discover new things in Andromeda Galaxy, like alien artifacts and natural wonders, that serve as trophies and decorations that you can use to modify the look of your character, Tempest (Space Ship) and Mako (land vehicle). Customize the way your squad and your character look with clothes and aesthetic modifications that you unlock throughout the game. Photos you take from the far reaches of the galaxy can be used to decorate your starship or sold to certain characters.

Remnant Vault Raids: Find and activate Remnant Monoliths to unlock Remnant vaults. Explore abandoned Remnant ruins to find and locate a powerful artifact, but once you remove it you will trigger the vault defenses that will arm traps, activate defense robots and even change the architecture of the vault itself to stop you from escaping. Fight your way out of the vault and you will be rewarded with valuable loot, including powerful gear, crafting resources and Star Keys that can be used to unlock massive orbital facilities in space that grant permanent stat bonuses.

Optional Elite Remnant Vault Raids are scattered around the Helius Cluster located in special orbital facilities that are unlocked by Star Keys. Similar to the standard Remnant Vaults, you enter them to retrieve a special artifact which will trigger the vault defenses that arm traps, activate defense robots and change the architecture of the vault itself to stop you from escaping. However, Elite vaults ratchet up the difficulty of the encounter with increasingly powerful defense robots and traps, as well as roaming outlaws and deadly Khet patrols that are also in search of the elite artifacts. Elite Remnant vaults will test the limits of your combat and puzzle solving acumen, but with greater difficulty comes greater rewards. Gain rare loot, narrative acclaim and huge rewards for completing these daunting challenges.

Khet Outposts:

As you explore planets throughout the Helius Cluster, you will encounter Khet
Outposts. These outposts are optional combat experiences where you enter the outpost and fight off waves of enemies. Destroy Khet outposts to earn XP, rewards and thwart their growing power in the region. Your allies will reward you with praise and increased narrative options as you fight to remove the Khet presence from the region.

Drive and upgrade your Mako (land vehicle):

Explore the surfaces of 100s of planets in the Helius Cluster in your versatile land vehicle, the Mako. Whether you are looking for a place to set up a colony, searching for a Remnant vault or attacking a Khet Outpost, you will enjoy getting there in your Mako. Equip and upgrade your Mako in dozens of ways, like adding turbo boosters, upgrading your shield generator or adding a Hostile Detector to your radar to create the ultimate planetary exploration vehicle. Finally, get your Mako looking the way you want with a custom paintjob.

Silent Hills (and Konami)

Silent Hills has officially been cancelled by Konami, and the P.T. demo will be removed from the Playstation store on the 29th April.

For anyone who hasn't been following the whole Konami saga i'll try and give a brief rundown.

Essentially Hideo Kojima (the creator of the Metal Gear series and the lead developer on Silent Hills) has been embroiled in an issue with Konmai (the publisher of Metal Gear, Silent Hill and PES) of which the full details aren't known.

The speculation is that Konami are supposedly wanting to move towards the mobile gaming market, and wanted to make cuts to/freeze the Metal Gear budget going forward

Kojima wasn't happy with this

Konami supposedly reduced his role within the company considerably (apparently a prominent practice in Japan used to force people to resign, as sacking someone reflects badly on the company)

Konami then proceeded to remove mentions of Kojima and his studio from various online sites and media

Guillermo Del Torro (the movie director, and producer for this game) and Norman Reedus (the actor from the Walking Dead, who was to voice the main character) both state the Silent Hills project looks to be dead

Silent Hills is cancelled, and Konami voluntarily choose to delist themselves from the New York Stock Exchange citing the lack of shares being traded as the reason

Konami are apparently considering a move away from games development/publishing to instead focus on their profitable Japanese based ventures (which include love hotels)

Star Wars Battlefront

It's been out for a bit now, but for anyone who hasn't seen the trailer here it is

The game will launch with four maps, and a fifth one will be added on the 8th December. An extensive DLC schedule is planned (no surprise there from EA), with all packs supposedly being free.

Space combat from the previous game is gone, with DICE supposedly wanting to instead focus on ground battles instead.

Telltale Games (Marvel)

Telltale Games, the developer of The Walking Dead, The Wolf Among Us, Game of Thrones and many more have announced a deal with Marvel.

The studio will create a game based in the Marvel Universe, and is set to release in 2017. There's no word yet on whether it's based on the movies/tv shows (like Game of Thrones) or the comics (The Walking Dead and the The Wolf Among Us).

Blew my beans at that trailer. Really hope you are right about your theory, I have tried to play the original a couple of times and just could'nt get into it.

Anyone looked at the prices for Batman Arkham Knight and Black Ops 3?

The Arkham Knight season pass will cost 33 quid on top of the 50 quid game, Black ops 3 on Steam costs 69.99 and 34.99 for the season pass. These prices have been creeping up on us for years now, it won't be long before a 60 quid game will feel like the "basic" version.

Soon games will feel like a luxury rather than hobby, kinda already happened with Destiny. That's why games like The witcher 3 deserve massive support, it's priced fairly, 16 pieces of DLC are free to everyone, and the 2 expansions add hours and hours of gameplay, now that's how it should be done.

To be honest the whole Konami situation and the impact on its IP's isnt particulary clear at the moment.

The Metal Gear and PES series are pretty much the only major profit makers for Konami in the west (Silent Hill & Castlevania are still popular, albeit a lot less than they once were) and they don't really have much else going for them. I'd imagine if (and that's a pretty big if) Konami do decide to shut down their gaming division, another publisher would buy up the rights to PES.

A season pass has been announced for the game. If bought sepreately the pass will cost £32.99, but it's included in the Premimum Edition of the game which costs £87.99. According to Rocksteady, the DLC pwill be released periodically over the course of the six months following the game's release.

The actual details of the DLC are unknown at the moment, but they are said to include

"new story missions, additional super-villains invading Gotham City, legendary Batmobile skins, advanced challenge maps, alternative character skins, and new drivable race tracks."

Ive went off buying games on release a lot for these reasons.
So much so, ive not bothered with new gen yet. Its disgusting how much we are asked to fork out for games. Specially for annual update games like fifa, cod etc.

Lol it'll be the same on consoles as well, funny thing is Digital should technically be cheaper, the publisher does not have to pay for the discs or boxes, or shipping them all over the globe, the supply is also unlimited. It's being done to test the waters, companies are always testing the market, to see far they can go.

In the end all it does is encourages console users to buy 2nd hand which is the equilavent to pirating a game, and the PC players just pirate it for real just like any other EA or Ubisoft game.

All you can do vote with your wallet i suppose.

I totally disagree with that. It depends on what games you play of course, but for a lot of games if you worked out how much you paid over the amount of hours entertainment you get then you would see that it isn't that expensive at all.

Just in case anyone missed it on the last page, there's a big bit on a potential Mass Effect 4 leak. I accidentally missed out the title/label and put it under Mad Max.

In regards to the DLC & micro-transaction debate

DLC is a good concept if done right, i.e. to enchance experience. Unfortunately what we see a lot of the time is content being withheld/removed from the base game to be sold at a later date.

Micro transactions are a truly awful practice. All its doing is charging for in-game content that once upon a time would have been free (like skins in multiplayer games) and encouraging shoddy game making. I've yet to see any sort of positive for micro-transactions.
