I was never his biggest fan last season, never really did much for me. He was always tidy, worked hard and made good decisions, and always had a chance to score too, just never impressed me. Now this pre-season, I'm realizing that he has literally all the attributes we need in our midfield. Very underrated player that I'm guilty of overlooking, I think him and Henderson would be magic for us up the middle.

Very good player, rarely wastes a pass, is very creative with a good eye for goal. Stocky/Sturdy wee guy as well so has core on him. It's not just his passing which is very good though it's the weight of the pass which he gets spot on near every time a very good skill to have in midfield.

A midfield three of Allan, McGregor and Rogic could be very good.

If you even suggest Brown should be part of it, get out!

P.s I didn't see Wolfsburg stroll through it today friendly or not.

Forget him. A midfield of Rogic, Allan and McGregor is far too lightweight.

Mate Wolfsburg struggled to play against it at times today, and they're a far better side than everyone in Scotland including us.

It's a stone age backwards mentality that you always need 'steel' in there and a 'rock'.

Three guys with exceptional passing and keep the ball very well is very hard to play against.

    :smiley-laughing002:

Two attacking midfielders in central midfield and a naturally attacking central midfielder... none of whom are particularly good at tackling and taking up defensive positions. Nae bother mate :smiley-laughing002:

    * sake Finny, your calling yourself Wanyama now as well :56:

I've seen Rogic and McGregor win back possession through tackling on numerous occasions, they have the ability to do that and with their passing and control of the ball it could work very well. I'm yet to see Allan's tackling capactity I'll grant you but I'm sure he can master it as well. I'd rather have three players like that in the middle you make very good use of the ball than a couple of cloggers in there.

It's not a Stone Age mentality in the slightest. That's a * ridiculous suggestion. All the best teams in the world have quality holding midfielders or ball winners.

Aye Barca with Busquets, Real Madrid have Kroos and Modric able to defend, Atletico have the full * teamc Bayern with Alaba and Lahm playing in there more often than not, Juventus are all about steel in midfield and defence...

All the best teams have it.

McGregor is constantly improving and for me is now a no brainer on the team sheet. Wasnt too long ago folk on here were calling for him to be out the door...

Could be our best player this season if give the run he deserves.

Shows how far we've fallen when this boy is so crucial. Not a dig at him, as he's worked hard and took his chance anytime it's came. I agree that he should be starting over Brown & Bitton, him and Ajer sitting in front if the defence would be good to see.

Not saying he's a poor player. Just looking back at our midfielders of the past makes you wonder.

Exactly. Although, all those players are not only good at steel, grit, etc. They can also pass a baw.

It doesn't make me wonder tbh. I think if McGregor got a sustained run, we'd rave about him. I honestly rate him so highly. He has good touch, passing, shooting, rarely wastes the ball, mobile. Needs to brush up a bit defensively, but in terms of his more positive attributes, he's as good at them as anyone we've had in centre mid recently

He's the Scottish, left-footed Frank Lampard. Simple as that.

Basically I don't think him being in our team shows regression. He's an excellent wee player

Edit: Not that we haven't regressed a bit, we have. But players like him haven't been the issue

If he was foreign and we'd bought him I think there would be a greater level of respect.

He's by no means a World beater but he is neat, tidy, fairly quick, can beat people, can spot a pass and has a good finish. He's also proven already he can do that at a higher level i.e. against Ajax.

I'd have no problems with him being a mainstay in the side as he's progressed month on month practically since he's been around the first team.

I know this is bold words. But when we had Wanyama, Ki, Kayal, Ledley and Brown, which was a cracking midfield, I would have happily replaced one of them(ki or kayal) with McGregor. He has attributes that we've not had in a centre midfielder for a while.
