Newcastle down 2-1 now to qpr.
But with hull losing to Spurs looks like they'll go down. Be interesting next weekend though

Think Newcastle will stay up. Don't see them not winning at Home to West Ham and Hull beating Man United.

He deserves a wankfest though, for me the best midfielder in the EPL of my time.

Scholes maybe more talented technically and better as an old player but for me Gerrard was a better player than him even by a fair distance when both at their bests.

No sure about this. He has been a fantastic footballer but everyone that has any idea about football knows this: no need for the "wankfest" .

I don't mean from the Liverpool fans. I mean from the media and folk outside of Liverpool.

Scholes was technically better but Gerrard was a complete game winner/changer.

Aye, a leader, an allrounder and lifted a team who were never really that good to being better than they were.

You forget him at his absolute best because it was quite long ago now, but the amount of times he galvanised his team or rescued them with assits or goals was one of the best players to have done that.

At his absolute best he was the best player in England at times, where as Scholes id say despite being a talented player was never one of even probably the top 10 players in England at any point.

    ?

Scholes was definitely in the top 10 in England as often as Gerrard would have been.

He could also grab games by the scruff of the neck as Gerrard did. It's not Scholes fault he played in a successful team with other good players.

Go on Gerrard, smash in a 40 yarder.

Remember Carragher's last game he belted a 35/40 yarder off the post, some strike:smiley-laughing002:

I dont think he ever was really. Scholes is a really weird player to me in that he was never that great, but he could have been great and he was good when he was old, I think people act like he was better than he was. If you look he never once got a single vote as European Player of the Year - and he only made the EPL TOTS 2 times(Gerrard has done it 8 I think) and has had nominations for the Balon D'or about 6 times.

Not that you need recognition off others to have been good but he must be the most overrated, underrated player ever. In that he was never considered great until he was old.

Scholes also never even won the Man Utd player of the year once.

For me none of that is a coincidence, he at no point was an Makelele/Keane/Alonso/Gerrard/Lampard/Essien/Toure who you could say at one point were the best midfielder in England or has atleast 2 seasons or so of being world class.

Scholes had world class talent but the best he ever played was only really very good.
