The expansion would be brilliant but as others have said not enough tickets being sold so sadly the board couldnt and shouldnt justify this (unless they are planning majorly for this european league that gets batted around every so often )

As for the restriction i wasnt aware of this i always thought it was pretty open plan at CP i always sat in the lions stand with the rest of the boat travellers :56: if the restriction is what i bieve it to be at the end of the bowl to the main stand surely the renovation would rectify this and bring it to uefa standards

Think the dressing rooms need done also to hold a final, too small as it is...I think.

Would we even sell another 20,000 tickets for a champions league game anyway, I've never had bother getting one wether it's sold out or not

Doubt itwill happen. We should have went for the complete bowl when it was originally built.

But for European games alone it may be worth it.

I know it's not this simple but an extra 20,000 x a £100 CL package is £2m plus qualifiers rounds And 20,000 more pies potential sold. As long as wr keep qualifying, it would pay for itself.

Agree that does look absolutely superb but like the masses doubt this will happen unless we return one day to the MON era ticket sales and demand

I hate to say this, but I strongly suspect it would also be filled for 2 matches a season against Sevco. Potentially that could be 5 to 8 matches a year, depending on cup draws and how we do in Europe (5 if we reach the CL group stages and 8 if we make the last 16 and get Sevco at home in both cups.

The major plus IMO would be fairness. Right now the CL ticketing system means a lot of good fans who go to as many games as they can afford and are passionate about Celtic cannot get tickets for the CL. I mean the kind of people who went to the Shakhtar Karagandy game becauae they knew the players desperately needed help from the crowd in that one and who helped make the best atmosphere since the 2-1 Barça game that helped carry us through and then couldn't get tickets for the group stage. An 80k stadium would allow everyone who wants a ticket to get one. On that point, it has been said how important it is to allow young people and kids who kind of like Celtic but aren't fans to experience the big European nights. I'm an example of someone who always had a soft spot for Celtic and looked for our results, but became a fan after being taken to a European game by my stepdad back in 92.

The only downsides I can see is how silly 30k people (the amount who actually go to average league games) would look in a stadium holding 80k and the loss of the historic main stand, which IMO serves as a beautiful link between the new CP and the pre-McCann one.
The first objection ought not to be one. Massive clubs like AC Milan also get about 30k for average league games and only fill their 75k stadium for big games like derbies, title deciders, big European games, etc. The cost of games shouldn't be a factor as they'd just shut off more sections for league games. The second objection is more telling IMO. People are sayong the completed bowl looks beautiful, but I think it looks much more beautiful as it is. If the main stand goes, you'll miss it.

Are we not still waiting to hear back about the standing section proposal?

If thats the case will it not boost attendance's, albeit a little or is it 1 standing spot per vacated seat?

Even if it is, chances are it will be filled more than the seats would have been, and add to the atmosphere in general.

The stadiums never full just now other than the CL and when Rangers come back up to give some competition.

i dont think our main stand is listed as it was only built in 1969 plus the original facade was changed in the 80's

I've always wanted a stadium expansion. The bowl idea has always been on my mind and it looks great in that mock-up picture.

Or even turning the main stand into a 3-tier wall, really narrow and close to the pitch would look really intimidating.

But, the obvious thing that everyone has already said is that it would rarely get filled.

Unless the huns get back and they start challenging, it would be half-filled like it currently is.

Maybe we should decrease capacity so that only the "real fans" can get in.

Ok, let's add the 15 thousand and round up the main stand , then have 35 thousand empty seats pretty much every home game, just for you..

I don't think Rangers will be coming back anytime soon. They're deid.

    I'm not picky.
They can't "come back"....they are dead and are now hopefully burning in *.

I can't see a stadium expansion getting done any time soon really. If we were getting continual sell-outs then yeh, but with an average of probably only 40k it wouldn't be justified. Plus they wouldn't expand it just for the sake of European football either cos those games are never guaranteed.

pointless extending the stadium... it would be half empty every week & i actually like the current main stand as it is
