CELTIC Football Club is delighted to announce ‘MAESTRIO’ – a legends’ charity match featuring former Celtic star Paul McStay and ex-Manchester United captain Rio Ferdinand - on Sunday, September 7, 2014 (2pm kick-off).

This unique event, which will be hosted by Celtic FC Foundation, will see the 'Maestro' himself - Celtic legend and former Captain, Paul McStay - make a rare and much-anticipated return to Paradise. McStay's Maestros will take on Rio's All-Stars as a host of footballing legends and celebrity fans battle it out on the pitch at Celtic Park.

He was my absolute hero as a kid. Even had a poster of him on my wall. It's really weird, the name itself seems to glow in my head, even Larsson doesn't leave me as starstruck.

I'm the same mate, I would probably be a gibbering idiot if I met him.

He has always been on a pedestal for me, it's going to be great seeing him in Paradise again.

I'll take my bhoys and bore them to death with stories of how good he was. :smiley-laughing002:

Edit. Such a shame he lives in Oz now, I always thought he would make a great ambassador for the club.

Larsson was world class and a true Celtic legend; what you don't realise is so was McStay.

When you are a kid your idols mean so much more to you. Larsson is a bona fide legend but i was an * when he played for us and even though I know how insanely good he was, The Maestro is like a mythical figure for me, someone who just shone in a dark time for us all at the time.

The fact that he hasn't been back much since is even more reason to celebrate this news.

Its a pity Paul never stayed in football after he retired, he would have had a lot to offer in a coaching capacity, be great to see him again, another of our greatest ever servants

Great to see this. The Maestro was by far my favourite Celtic player growing up. Especially during the dark days he was the light in the tunnel. Amazing loyalty he showed Celtic as well in never leaving. Without doubt for me one of the all time greats in our clubs history.
