What's this about Watt? Can anyone fill me in? Is he in the squad, has he played any part in the pre-season friendlies so far?

His cousin big Paul will sort you out with comments like that:icon_mrgreen:. Didn't see the game just saw the highlights, did O'Connell start the match?

The two youth CB's did indeed look atrocious... valuable game time for them though and hopefully they've learned a few lessons.

You could say O'connell is only 18 and has much to learn, but for some reason I feel like if we were to put an 18 year old VVD beside O'connell we would easily be able to see who was going to make it into a great defender.

Sometimes you can just tell with the way they are in possession, how they move with the ball and read the game. For me the two young defenders don't look like they have it, not when we compare them to Henderson or McGeouch who look natural when they play.

thats a bit of an unfair comparison comparing two ball playing central midfielders with centerbacks.

I'd not be scared to say right now that neither of the young defenders will make massive impacts.

You can see the likes of Henderson and Fisher making an impact out of the youngest youths, they already have, but as I said earlier I don't have alot of confidence in our youths at the back. Always have been less optimistic about our defensive prospects compared to the midfield and up top.

    Hopefully I am wrong.

I just found out the Dukla Prague game will be held in Freistadt, northern <?xml:namespace prefix = "st1" ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:eek:ffice:smarttags" />Austria. My *, this will be a private affair.

A town with a population of 7,500, their "stadium" certainly is tiny. A small pitch, local, regional, a little celebration with beer, sausages and the local fire brigade team...

Agree mate. We always seem to produce far better attacking players than defenders. The last two I remember getting meaningful game time are McManus and O'Dea but they were no better than average. John Kennedy seemed to have more about him but we all know how that ended unfortunately.

Think the mentality of the club lends itself to attack minded players and this probably filters through to the youth teams but let's be honest there is a dearth of talented defenders throughout the Scottish game. Young Soutar at Utd is highly thought of yet ironically was part of our youth set-up, unless I'm mistaken?

Ha.....the name still evokes memories for me though! Not of a particular game, just a name from my childhood!

All I know from the game (the away one) is that it was the only time jock stein sent the team out to play pure defensive or negative football just to get the result
