Moyes is a good manager. There's no doubting that for me.

There was more he gave debuts too but those ones were in and out the team and around the squad.

People forget, discounting O'Neill's first year, he had * all money to spend. So he developed the players that he had at his disposal.

Still should have put Marshall before Douglas more than he did though.

Would never have had Boruc if he done that though, so swings and roundabouts.

In Epl terms, Moyes worked under a strict budget at Everton..

I think it was him gave that guy from Cavan a couple of starts then flogged him to a team in Bulgaria who if I remember correctly didn't pay us

Edit:Cillian Sheridan. Just checked his dates and it was WGS

Early days but Tierney could well be at their level in a few seasons. There's plenty young players looking promising mainly Nesbitt, Henderson could come back and do very well.

We have plenty of opportunities now to get the youth in, since we need to build the foundations for next seasons team for the qualifiers.

That's not a point though, it's an opinion and one I don't agree with. I think we could interest one of them. We have money to spend, and success would be deemed getting to the CL by beating a team whose budget we vastly outstrip. In many ways it would be the ideal way for Rodgers or Moyes to revitalise their careers.

It's not so simple as a yes or no to that question. I believe that Deila and the support massively underestimated Molde who, unlike Malmo, where a * good team who were very well drilled in a a very effective formation and plan. The 'Celtic Way' as Deila believes it is that we'll always try to attack and overpower opposition. The only times that doesn't apply is when we're up against 'bigger teams' than ourselves.

The ability to play defensively against Ajax and Fenerbace saw us outplay them for most of the game. I don't think deila believes the support and club would allow him to do that against every european team. *, even trying to play defensively against Ajax at home with a raft of injuries saw him slaughtered by some who thought it was a disgrace to the club.

Did he sacrifice the results? Of course not. That implies he deliberately set up to lose. Do I think he felt pushed to attempt to attack more than he should have? Yes. My gut says if we'd played all our games like we played the first 2 we'd have 6 or 7 points now - 3 or 4 draws and a win. I thought the first 2 matches showed a maturity we'd never seen from Deila the year before, and then the Molde matches shattered that. Ajax at home was grim viewing but it took them until the 88th minute to get past us and win - * but effective, a bit like Molde.

Sorry if that's a long and disjointed ramble, but it's just what i feel. Balls to the wind is fine in Scotland, but with the speed everyone else is starting to outpace us in europe we need to play defensive, fast counterattack football in europe and accept that's going to mean less attractive football but better results.

    I think... :smiley-laughing002:

Probably have missed 1 or 2 but can't think..

He spent big money early door's that we wouldn't have sustained season after season, and our side was very good middle to front. Henrik, Stan, Lambert and the likes of Jackie at the back. His signings worked tremendously though (and were worth every penny of the money) and not all had to be biggies down the line, step up Agathe..

Good point about Boruc. I'll say no more on Dudlas..

The support overestimating Molde should not be relevant to RD. Supporters are always overconfident.

By sacrificing the result I meant he put in in jeopardy. It is his job to keep the players grounded and treat every team with respect. We were well warned before going to Molde as they were already top of the group. I for one did not expect an easy win rather I believed we were capable of beating them if we played well. I still believe this.

I also believe we were capable of beating Ajax home and away and Fener at home. I am not implying that we would do it every time rather it is within our capabilities. Those who think we have not the quality to compete in the EL are wrong as we have a more talented bunch of players than Molde without any doubt.

Aye, he's a good manager, but no one can guarantee Champions league football to our club.

Guarentee? No but you can get a far better chance with a manager who knows what they're doing and Moyes is a manager who knows what he's doing.

And that's what I'm exactly getting at mate, its time our board started realising just how big a Club Celtic really are. Davie Moyes, has a lot of passion for Celtic, I know that for a fact, and I also know his pride has been hurt with his last two jobs. He is unquestionably a really good manager, and a really good motivator, he will want to restore his own ability, and I believe he knows he could do that with proper realistic investment at Celtic. We all have to realise, board members included, that financial success won be won in Scotland, but only by being successful in Europe. Moyes, I believe is sensible enough to recognise he can rebuild his career with Celtic, and he knows he wont get the same payroll as he would get in Premier League :50:

Possibly, although it sounds disrespectful. I'd prefer to say it was an "I'm just out of work but very much in the shop window" mission..

It's funny. I remember all the Celtic fans saying about MON at the time was that he played practically the same first X1 then ran them all into the ground.

Now apparently he was a guy who had a huge focus on bringing through youths.

So he didn't bring through those players? Who did? :97:
