Why should we be good enough to qualify?

Apart from Stefan Johansen, every attacking player we have is nothing more than SPL standard. If Dundee Utd went into the Champions League qualifiers with Armstrong, Mackay-Steven and Ciftci as their attacking threat would anyone expect them to score enough goals to qualify? I wouldn't. Some games we are playing with basically the same attacking players Dundee Utd were playing with last season. People don't seem to realise this. It's not good enough. We need more quality in the final third, it's that simple.

Maybe a couple of years from now guys like Armstrong and Mackay-Steven will progress to the point where they can get the job done but in the meantime if we don't invest in some extra quality in the final third we will see more nights like last night.

I've slept on it and tbh I'm even more angry at him than I was last night.

Last year was a * joke from start to finish in Europe but we gave him the benefit of the doubt considering he was just in the door etc. etc.

He done his transfer business early this year and he's failed in his remit again against teams lesser than ours in stature and resources.

That's the way I feel this morning too. I don't agree with the transfer business as such.

But I honestly don't believe he's learned from his mistakes and his stubbornness to ever change his system is infuriating. I honestly don't know if any other Celtic manager would get away with that. He keeps making bold statements too which are coming back to haunt him, he just doesn't seem to be learning at all.

    "We will definitely win"
    "We will definitely score"
"We won't face anyone better than Qarabag"
    "We will win the treble"

We should be good enough to qualify for the same reason we are not good enough to win it. We are a bigger team with a much bigger budget than any of the teams that stand in our way.

The quality of our players is why we did not qualify not why we should not qualify. Malmos top players are easily within out budget. The likes of Rosenberg would have been seen as a cheap option last month and would have been held up as an example of the lack of ambition by our board.

The best of the rest in the SPFL are not good enough to grace the group stages of the EL yet we are looking for the DU attack to propel us into the CL. Therein lies the problem.

Ronny needs hard cash, not this £2m players and hope they do good. We should be looking at the £4m-£5m players then sell them on for £10m-£15m.

Other managers took players from our league and we had some of the best European nights, they are clearly much better man managers IMO.

I could name a good few players who where a SPL level and the other managers managed them much better.

I agree he needs more quality but he is a yes man and will do what he is told, I think he has been found out at this level.

It's not man management or motivation that's a problem. He's tactically naive.

i think the board need to take some of the blame as we sell our best players for the big money and the manager really has one hand tied behind his back . i think we need people on the board who are willing to put money into celtic and give the manager a helping hand . i think a few celtic fans have gave up on deila and only a good run in the europa league can save his job .

I gave Deila the benefit of doubt following the failure last season, as I believed it was Lawwell and the board who should have been blamed.

Despite still thinking Lawwell should be hounded for the regression that the club has seen, I also think Ronny Deila should pay for this failure. He has had a year to weed out the imposters in this team- and yet last night he picked a side which had too many of the failures of last season, and yet he expected a different result! I do think his hands are tied to some degree, but ultimately he is partly culpable for yet another failure and should therefore pay the price.

We aren't good enough either. Poor defensively, poor up top, and we haven't got enough players in our team who are composed enough on the ball. Europa League is our level, it's that simple.

Very true WGS especially was excellent at getting results on a limited budget. His team consisted of mcmanus, caldwell, hartley, robson, mcdonald and mcgeady- few home growns with spl talent mixed in. To me ronny is very naive- we * the home leg, at 3-1 we should have been looking to go to the corner flag and staying there but we kept looking for another goal and conceded ourselves. In the end bergets goal changed everything- i think if we hadnt conceded that goal we would have got through.

Two questions need to be asked here.

Have we gone forward since Lennon left?
Has the manager reached his expectations as the manager of our club?

Questions do need to be asked.

Last night was a rank rotton performance. We are not champions league quality.

Anybody who wants to quote me and slate me for my opinion by all means can, but could i kindly ask that you answer those two questions first?

    Cheers.

We got to the last 16 of the Champions League with Paul Telfer, Gary Caldwell, Stephen McManus and Lee Naylor. If you're poor defensively fix it.

We have far better defenders now. We don't have a manager who can set up so we can fix it.

I'm sorry but I'll never accept that Malmo are beyond our level.

We're not good enough. We are a Europa League level team, there is no question about that. The starting X1 that was picked last night was probably the right team, and many agreed on here. How many of our players turned up? Van Dijk & Boyata were poor, Bitton & Brown were equally as bad, with Johansen probably worse, and Griffiths hardly touched the ball. That is the spine of our team. The big difference between Strachan's last 16 team, and the current group of players, is that Strachan's team had a bit of fight in them, I don't see that with this team.

So basically sack the board and the manager/coaching staff. Easily said.

Want to give us some idea on who/what we do to replace them all or is that not so easily said ?

And that is down to Ronny Deila as well, if that's true.
