I would think a man who has made the sort of money he has..(DD) will have all the boards balls in a crusher somewhere and one * mistake and they dont get them back.:smiley-laughing002:
I doubt he is the sort of man who has tens of million invested in celtic and not have a iron fist control over everything.

He invested a lot of his money in share issues quite a long time ago. He still owns these shares.

I'd imagine he has received this money back though, through dividends etc??

That's not how people like Desmond think. Sure, he'll have made a small, steady profit on his investment from the dividends and, potentially, on the share price when he chooses to sell. That's not how he'll see it, though; he didn't become a billionaire through small, steady profits and he'll look at this in terms of opportunity cost. From what I understand on here, the guy routinely makes a fortune by growing businesses and selling them on. From his point of view, all this money he has invested in Celtic (generating an income that to him will be chicken feed) is money that he could have invested elsewhere for a much larger profit. I don't doubt for one second that he wants to grow Celtic into a club of Man Utd or Liverpool proportions and that this is why the board is so keen on us leaving the Scottish league.

He'll be watching his investment in Celtic like a hawk.

Aye I see what you mean - had a look on Wikipedia for a short list of his investments etc...buying London City airport was a stroke of genius, some £700 million profit.

As someone mentioned previously though, he made his investment back when Celtic going to the EPL was a real possibility.

Since that's died down he's not really been involved all that much, has he?

I don't know. I don't think he's that involved except during certian critical periods like now, but I do think he maintains total control, so that when the time comes for him to finally make the kind of return he must have originally envisaged (i.e. if we move to a more lucrative league), he is in a position to impose his will and get involved again.

Certainly even now there's speculation that he's the driving force behind Keane being considered.

I mean involved in the investment side of things. He hasn't, for example, made any more moves to snap up shares, has he?

Are you crazy? The man's a financial genius and the prospect of joining the EPL has all but gone. Of course he doesn't want to invest his money in more Celtic shares!
