I think Lawwell has done a good job. Practical leadership. Celtic are managing their finances sensibly and thus will be financially secure in the short and long term. Celtic could win the league title next season with the current squad. Therefore the only reason to buy players is for Europe. The reality is that money normally talks in the Champ League. Hence Celtic winning the Champ League is pure fantasy with the finances available. I think qualifying for the quarter finals would be an outstanding achievement. However qualifying for the group phase is perhaps the best Celtic fans can expect. At least then we have 6 six games to look forward to. I consider reaching the playoff rounds a bonus. Lawwell runs a good ship. Celtic fans need to keep their expectations realistic. It is a different footballing world to how it was in 1967. If Celtic were to again have a title winning team where everyone was born within a few miles of Glasgow, I would expect Scotland to qualify for the World Cup as well. Never say never, however not as likely in the 21st century.

A lot of fans feel that Lawwell lacks ambition and goes for the cheap option too often, rather than someone that will take us to the next level. That could apply to both players and managers that have been at the club under his stewardship.

Mowbray was the cheap option after Strachan, never worked out. Failed miserably actually. Lennon was another cheap option after the initial cheap option, which thankfully worked out and also coincided with the death of our 100+ year rivals to make things a whole lot easier, domestically speaking.

Now it looks like Coyle is going to be the cheap option that comes after the cheap option whom replaced the initial cheap option. Time will tell if such an underwhelming potential appointment works out, but certainly we can do much better.

I don't think Mowbray was cheap to be fair. He cost us £2m in remuneration to his former club (the 8th highest remuneration payment in British footballing history). He then cost us somewhere in the region of £17k a week in wages. Then we had to pay him a £1.5m settlement to leave.

All in he probably cost us £4m. He is the reason why Lawwell prefers rolling contracts now and will more than likely look for a very cheap option.

I understand where you're coming from and I wasn't aware of the exact figures involved with the appointment and sacking of TM to be honest, but when I said 'cheap', I meant it in the sense that he was another ex-Celtic player plying his trade in Britain at the time and we never had to go very far to get him.

Basically what I'm getting at is, we never really cast the net as far out as we should have when it came to appointing a successor to Strachan. Someone like Bilic at that time would have been perfect, but then again, we might never have enjoyed Lennon's reign had Mowbray not done such a disastrous job. Hindsight is 20/20.

The running of the PLC should be Peters job... the running of the team should be the managers and the person speaking for the fans should be one of us

if Peter wants to attend a FAC event he can do so as a FAN, he does not need to represent the club.

The problem with a board is that they put the interest of the shareholders first - as that is their fiduciary duty... but the fans want the interest of the team to be put first.

Peter Lawwelll is very good for Celtic PLC.. and we are very lucky to have him, i cannot think of anyone else that i would rather have in that position. My only gripe is that the footballing goals are being downgraded at the expense of profits

Perhaps we (as fans) need to look at a completely new angle -- perhaps buying a controlling interest in the youth set up. We are limited due to our league and the money it generates not by the ambition of of the support or the players.

I am 100% sure the board are working very hard to find a way to increase revenue and if possible look at playing in another league but this will not happen any time soon so we best all just work together and remain financially stable until such an opportunity arises

Many fans who own shares do not vote....... that is a big part of the problem. If such fans were to pool their vote then that would be a good start

I don't think anyone's saying he's just the fall guy, are they?

All some of us are saying is that he's a member of a board that makes the decisions together. Just because he's the face of said board doesn't mean he's running things single-handedly, as some fans seem to believe.

That's quite a serious allegation to be honest.

If I were one of the Celtic fans who was being persecuted by the club I think I'd be having a word with my solicitor. Such antics should result in court action, which, if Lawwell is actually guilty of collusion to see innocent people persecuted by the police, would result in him either being arrested or a tasty out of court settlement from the club.

I wonder why none of the fans in question have went down that road?

I think the issue here is that a lot of fans see this as a black or white issue. Either Lawwell is the guy pulling all the strings and is a complete *, or he's a master of his craft.

Personally, I think he does a great job, but there are certainly parts of his job that both he & the board could handle better, such as their PR and so on.

He doesn't strike me as a very likeable man, but then again I doubt few in his position really are.

Fergus McCann didn't come across as a nice guy either, and history has been kind to him even though plenty of fans were putting the boot into him when he was here.

There was a guy that is ex-affilation who spoke about the meeting to back up this point. I would be inclined to believe him more than Lawwell in all honesty. There is a video on youtube with him talking to others regarding the meeting.

Lawwell comes in for criticism on fan issues or whatever – it’s down to the entire board and not just him.

Lawwell is given praise – isn’t he just wonderful, great CEO, be a great loss if we lose him yadda yadda ya.

Be a good day when this snake leaves our club and he can take his * pal Ronnie Hawthorn and others with him.

That is something you would have to ask the guy personally. What reasons would this guy have for lying about it? Why would he make up this story? What would he gain from it?

Perhaps he does not want to sue the club. Unless he can afford solicitor fees the only way a solicitor would take the case is if there was a decent cut in it for him.

Of course, not everyone will believe 100% what the guy is saying, and there is always an element of scepticism with any rumours. I just don't see a reason for not believing him if I'm honest. I don't see why a Celtic fan who was a metting where Peter Lawwell & Ronnie Hawthorn were present, would then later lie to fellowe supporters about what exactly went on at the meeting.

Still no valid alternative approach as per OP, the guy receives so much criticism about finances, selling players, forcing managers out of the club etc. It seems to me it all boils down to the stance he took with the GB?
