I'm not taking it for granted that we will qualify or sail throught the qualifiers. But we are the seeded team, the favourites, so its a different situation compared to when he said "I would rather go down than play ugly football.".

Do you want to hear that whether you are favourites or not though?

Even if I supported a team that was cannon fodder that would still worry me.

As long as has a plan B, and maybe C then I'm fine with it.

It's a bold statement nonetheless.. Borderline ridiculous..as Sean pointed out.. I'd be worried about a plan b or c.. But I have to concede..I like the fire.

I expect a pragmatic manager for when the time for that is needed, like the Champions League obviously.

That was one quote taken from one time, I wouldn't base much on it man.

That Daily Mail profile on Deila really makes me believe in him, and his ability to manage a club like Celtic.

I'd welcome him in a heartbeat.

I just want to feel excited, like we're at the start of another adventure. I felt like that when Lenny took over (and same for MON, Tommy Burns, John Barnes :52: and to a lesser extent our other post-Bunnet managers). It hasn't always worked out, Barnes was awful, Venglos and Burns had some great moments and did some great work but ultimately fell short, but it's been an adventure (even Barnes was exciting in the summer before the season started, FS a front 4 of Larsson, Viduka, Moravcik and Berkovic playing in a Brazilian 4-2-2-2 sounded wonderful in theory, we signed Scheidt expecting something in the style later made famous by Lucio). The only guy post-Bunnet that didn't excite me was Mogga. I want another adventure and Coyle or Mackay don't make me feel that, they make me feel like I did when Mowbray took over: "meh".

I don't know if this Deila is the guy we're going to get or how it will pan out if it is, but don't you feel that excitement again? Who knows what highs and lows the next few years will bring?

I think it's your general optimism that makes me like/agree with you so much :smiley-laughing002:. I always want to feel positive about Celtic too but something does excite me about big Ronny.

To be honest, I think my excitement comes from the relief that it isn't Coyle, McNamara etc. (I may add that I mightn't mind Jackie in the future, just not now)

Roddy Collins is also free :fear: :fear:

We are a consistent feature in European football be it CL or Europa League. Would have thought we could attract a manager who is also a pretty consistent performer at this level. We are still a pretty big club. Looks like the club think Delia is the man so have to put our faith in that.

When he started at Stromgodset 6 years ago, he just managed to keep them up (they really were in poor shape) and thats when he stripped off on the pitch in celebration.

Fast forward 5 years and his team won the Tippeligaen and are in Europe. He is clearly a good manager and I'd be more than happy with him here. Certainly a better option than the likes of Keane and Coyle

I think the fact that he is pretty much an unknown quantity, makes this more exciting. His record is a good one, and if Johansen's style of play is anything to go by, we have got plenty to look forward to in my opinion. I would love to see John Collins come in as his assistant also.

Although I have next to no knowledge on Deila, I'm far more enthusiastic about him potentially becoming our new manager, than I have been with the majority of other names mentioned. Really hope we get him in to be fair.

If Deila is a good manager then go we should for him but any managerial signing has to be backed by the funds he needs to build a stronger squad for European campaigns.

I do like what I'm hearing about Deila. He has a good football philosophy, he seems to be a good coach, he can work under a tight budget and is used to the 'buy low, sell high' model. He obviously has a big passion for the game too, a Norwegian Jurgen Klopp would be cool :smiley-laughing002:

He's not a big name though, he hasn't managed in as big an environment as Celtic and he's not got any experience outside his native land which lets be honest doesn't have a strong league (it's even below Scotland in the UEFA coefficient!).

He'd be a very interesting appointment and a more inspired choice than others that have been mentioned over the last few weeks.

Not too sure on an unknown quantity to be honest , only thing is he is guaranteed a league title at least so could it be a stop gap till next season? Maybe we have spoken to someone who is willing to take the job next season?

Delia transformed Stromsgodset who very much like Celtic had to be saved from going under by a group of local investors in 2006. When he took over the club they were one of the worst sides in the Tippeligaen and barely survived relegation (see pics of Delia's striptease after the game that clinched their survival in the Tippeligaen).

One of his big strengths has been unearthing the talent that has driven Stromsgodset forward. Selling some of that talent for good fees like Stefan Johansen and then replacing them and rebuilding another strong side. This pretty much fits the Celtic ethos of finding players like Wanyama that we can make a healthy profit on.

So he could be a good choice. Add in John Collins and it could be a very formidable management team. Delia and Collins both have European experience which offers something different from Coyle, McNamara and Keane (who would never have been a good Celtic Manager).

If not Delia I would want Steve Clarke.
