i think some people think we are bigger than we actually are.

Far too many people gorging themselves on the EPL and La Liga and expecting Celtic to do the same thing.

I never once said that being assistant manager to a great manager made you automatically a good manager also...I said it gives you the experience required to manage at that level. With Clarke being the assistant he was directly involved in all of Mourinho's (Chelsea) successes and failings in Europe, he will know how to motivate and setup his teams, unlike Lennon who as we all remember was a tactical shambles in his 1st season in Europe.

 

Our policy of bringing in unknown young players has proved reasonably successful so don't see why the same principle can't be applied to a Manager.

One thing I notice a lot on here is downplaying the clubs achievements in Europe by diminishing the competition. Barca weren't at their best, Benfica are an average side and Spartack are poor etc

 

I can't be bothered wading through pages of petty squabbling, but are people moaning about us appointing this guy because he is unknown outside Norway? A guy who plays open, attacking football? A guy who encourages youth players making the step up? A guy that's been compared to Klopp? Fair enough, we don't know much about him but going by Norwegian journalists, he seems to be held in high regard. Few of us had heard of Wim Jansen. Lennon had no managerial experience. It worked out fine with them.

It may be a disaster, it may be a success. We will win the league, the pressure is on CL qualification and a winning a cup - something Lennon missed out on last year. People will moan no matter what we do. Any excuse to criticise the board. Lets stop being pessimistic and look forward to a new face leading us.

 

I agree to an extent, however with players we seem to employ a trawling net approach where we sort the wheat from the chaff after the fact. Employing a manager is just like line fishing where we have to get it right first time.

For every Wanyama there has been a Brozek.

 

If we bring 1 young player and he fails (say Juarez) we lose what?? £4 million max, we bring in a manager who fails we lose over £20 million and worse, coefficient points, which only makes the job harder for his replacement.

You clearly have no * idea what you're talking about, so why would I bother countering it?

 

That is it in a nutshell.

Its obvious many people will be influenced and/or disappointed because they have watched too much EPL football. They want us to be a part of that world and to have the ability to pay for this and that and get better managers but we don't operate in that market.

Its also making them believe managers are better than they really are, just because they managed in England. Its the equivalent of EPL fans thinking its an achievement just being a part of that league. :smiley-laughing002:

I really don;t see what is wrong with Dalia, I think it is new and exciting. I can't wait to see what he does.

 

People getting upset because we're not employing English football failures who have a wee soft spot for Celtic but wouldn't come anywhere near us if they hadn't been sacked by some middle of the road club in England.

Maybe that is why there is a serious interest. He's been manager in Norway for 6 years. Maybe Celtic are now looking at someone who won't just jump ship and will be here for a decent length of time.

 

Tbf I don't think 31-year-old Brozek counts as a 'young player'. :smiley-laughing002:
