I think somebody needs to alert the media - that 'special one' has taken us all for a ride - made us look like fools man.

It was Scotland's very own, the 'speshul wan' - Stevie Clarke.

Sorry bud, and with all respect, but managing in a backwater with a team like Stromsogedts isnt top pedigree to me...and Clarke isnt just about that wee cheating Portuguese *, he has worked with the best names in football (Starting with Bobby Robson). If that hasnt gave him a tutelage then he must be the thickest man in the world

We would though by virtue of him having managed in the EPL AND most importantly, being a Celtic fan. That seems to tick all the boxes for some.

Fact is, one of the game's best managers appointed him assistant.

What does knowing Scottish football (whatever that actually means in your world) have to do with us apparently playing well in Europe?

I like Clarke as well, but he wasn't exactly a success in the end at WBA was he?

I beg to differ. Our style in Europe was atrocious, even when we qualified for the last 16 and then got humped by Juve, but that isn't exactly what I meant. I mean that football is changing, the best teams are all playing smarter tactically and, as has been happening in the last few years to British-style clubs, failure to retain possession of the ball and failure to press smartly when you don't have it, means you'll get beaten. Look at the English teams in the CL. Look at the top two teams in the premier league this season, both play expansive football with a more "European" style. It is the future, and with our budget, we should be able to do it to a certain level. We shoud be able to outplay anyone in the qualifiers at least, and I would rather see us try to play against teams like Ajax and Milan instead of what we saw this year.

Spent relatively little, made good signings. Kept WBA in the premier league which is there aim - sacked by a panicky manager.

Like I said to another poster it served 2 of the last 3 celtic manager well in Europe knowing Scottish football. Also can you tell me how long he will take to know our game?

Since you make a ridiculous comparison with two top managers to the guy we have been linked with.

Well looks like this guy is going to be our manager. Surprised but not disappointed. Was wanting Malky originally but this guy has a bit of experience, likes to promote youth which is a massive plus point in my book as we have the set up to be producing more into first team players, and works in a budget which also suits the suits.

give him a chance see what he can do. Like the fact we aren't just settling for the usual suspects and thinking outside the box.

My one major question would be....his experience of bringing in players/scouting? We're a much bigger club and expect much more in the sense of transfers and success. Can he manage that? Obviously our scouting is pretty excellent at the moment but Deila will have his own ideas also. Just interested to see what will happen.

He still doesn't have enough experience as a manager though, which is totally different to the assistant managers role. Who cares if Jose appointed him to be his assistant, that doesn't mean it will translate into him being a good manager.

Its a bit harsh calling it a backwater, do we not hate when ignorant fools say that about our league. For what its worth, their league has become more competitive than ours. The guy managed to win the league there with 10% of the budget that Rosenberg have, hopefully he can permeate that into Europe for us.

I just feel that real, tangible managerial experience is worth more than being someone's assistant. Yes, you can learn well but how will that transpire into your role as manager? At the end of the day as an assistant you only have to deal with about half of the stress and flack that a manager does. The manager makes the calls and formulates the plans - its his head that is on the line.

Lets see what Clarke can do as a manager (not an assistant) in the next 5 years.

That annoys me though. If we want to move forward we have to look elsewhere - especially out of Britain.

What a lot of *. Celtic have to be pragmatic in Europe, our lack of tangible funds dictates it. Better teams than us park the bus in Europe.

Throw in the win against Barca and the cracking game away to Spartak and I would say Lenny got it spot on in Europe (in his first crack at the CL).

Obviously it went * up last this season but a lot of that was down to the spine of our team being allowed to leave.

The day we start going for it in europe is the day we suffer more embarrassing results than the Barca one.
