    http://sport.stv.tv/football/clubs/celtic/277869-stromsgodset-chairman-determined-to-keep-hold-of-celtic-target-ronny-deila/

Stromsgodset chairman Tom Saxegaard says he’s determined to keep hold of manager Ronny Deila in the wake of interest from Celtic.

The 38-year-old led the club to their first title in 42 years and has emerged as one of the front runners to replace Neil Lennon, who quit Parkhead last month.

Deila has enjoyed an eight-year association with Stromsgodset as both a player and coach, helping them win the Norwegian Cup in 2010.

After finishing as league runners up in 2012, he won the championship in 2013 to secure entry for this season’s Champions League qualifiers.

And his chairman believes the challenge of taking Stromsgodset into European football's top club competition could help keep him in Norway.

He told STV: "We are going to play in the Champions League and obviously we want to keep him.

"He’s our manager and is under contract with us for two-and-a-half- years.

"We really think he can get to the very top."

When pressed what the club would do if the manager wanted to make the switch to Glasgow, Saxegaard replied: "I can’t comment on anything. We never do that."

He also would not comment on whether Celtic had made an official approach for Deila.

Deila is the latest candidate to emerge after Republic of Ireland assistant manager Roy Keane ruled himself out of the race on Monday.

Reports in Norway claim Deila has been offered the role to take charge of the Scottish champions.

Part of me doubts it will be him, why would Lawwell want to pay out compensation for a guy with a 2 and a half year contract? He would be weary after Mowbray.

Really liking the idea of Deila. Norwegian fans saying he is held in much higher regard to Solsksjaer in terms of managerial ability is promising.

I want this Deila boy. Sounds exactly the kind of coach I want in, young, foreign, successful and forward thinking. Would the compensation be that huge either coming from a club the size of Stromsgodset ? (no offence)

He could be the one. Scandinavian manager, sign a few Scandinavian players and we're good to go.

Aye maybe your right WO. They can't be on a massive budget - their attendances are circa 6k a match.

I don't even know what he could be on to be honest, not over 5k a week surely?

Not sure about Deila per se but nice to know we are at least looking at a range of different candidates outside the ex-Celtic player/Scottish mould.

My worry is that the longer this drags on, the closer we get to qualifiers. Hopefully the club can get someone in soon to begin the recruitment progress, start planning for the CL games coming up and have enough time to get new ideas across to the players.

I'd guess it's not even 1/5 of that.

    Norwegian journalist

Magne Jordan Nilsen @DTMagne · 2h Celtic made the approach last night. The Godset board have responded today with a hands off warning. Deila under contract until 2016.

Deila have informed Godset that he wants to become the Celtic-manager. Suprised if they dont agree compensation. Big opportunity for him.

    I'd say he's on about £1-2k a week.

Please get this done and dusted Celtic. I don't know if I can go on building up my expectations and vision for another manager, only to have it knocked down again :smiley-laughing002:

MY, MY MYYYYYYY DELIA!! WHY WHY WHYYYYY DELIA! :shamrock: I'd * hate if we did that song to be fair.
