Keane will get more exposure being Villa assistant manager than up here imo and obviously the wages will be far greater. May be a silly move on his part tho given that Villa are being sold and perhaps the new owner will have a clear out.

You talk so much *. And before you make any quip about 'oh, how intellectual of you' - read your own post.

You know nothing the Scottish press, who cares if they think anything about us? They have never been our friends.

You yourself speculate and come out with some amount of tripe regarding yourself as 'in the know' but ' i can't reveal my source'.

And how much did Mourinho spend at Porto, answer me that? Want to know something, we at Celtic spent more on transfers and wages than Mourinho did at Porto......

I suppose Murinho is one of your all time hero's I can agree with your nonsense that we at Celtic have spent more than Mourinho spent at Porto. In all fairness we have been buying
players at Celtic for far longer than Mourinho has spent at Porto .
There is something not right about the nonsense been posted by Celtic fans on the merits of candidates for the Celtic job , who we don't even know are on Lawwell's list , but I suppose you think that is normal.

I wasn't speculating on any future Celtic Manager when I said I couldn't reveal my sources.
Maybe if you had a brain , you would know there was a difference reporting on something that had happened . I am sorry I thought even you would understand that .

I meant during the period Mourinho was at Porto not for all time.

He is not my all time hero - the guy is delusional and boring now. However he has his merits of that cannot be denied.

At the end of the day we are on a football forum - its all opinions, who cares if we speculate. :smiley-laughing002:

Ulster, why do you care what the media think of us? You have repeatedly stated that you hold their opinion in low regard.

Your constant lambasting of posters who try and show an interest in the club is tiresome. By all means offer an opinion rather than trying to come across as some psuedo-intellectual trying to put others down. If you don't agree with the speculation, fine. Others like to discuss it, no harm. :50:

He talks constant utter *. Apparently Gary Hooper is * too.

I'd be happy with Clarke. He has experience of working with the best and is clearly a very capable coach.

Haven't a clue mate. Lawwell claimed we were speaking to 5-10 candidates. With Keane out of the question that makes it 4-9 :icon_mrgreen:

I'd assume Clarke was one of them along with Mackay and Coyle

I doubt he was ever approached. Can't imagine him taking the Maccabi job if he thought he was in with a chance of getting this one.

What makes you think he was one of the candidates? We have no evidence that the media or the bookies have a clue who they are. I am sure PL did not pop down to Paddy Power to draw up his shortlist.

So, by your reckoning Mourinho can put all of his success down to money & luck?

Cheers, would be pretty happy with Clarke :50: Would be ecstatic if we could bring Henrik back in some capacity too. Too early to be manager but on the coaching staff, would hype up feel good factor.

:smiley-laughing002: This is emblematic of how tetchy the 'manager' threads have become on here.

Tbh mate, I'm just speculating that he was one of the candidates, as he's a name that's been thrown about quite a bit. Nothing wrong with speculation though - it's the name of the game on here!

Bertie Auld, with all due respect, talking * on SSN there. Anyone see it?

He said he was gutted we didn't get Keane because he'd bring back the physicality to the squad and we'd sell more season tickets with him here.

    From the evening times:

CELTIC are negotiating to bring Steve Clarke to Parkhead - 27 years after they last attempted to recruit him.

The 50-year-old Ayrshireman has jumped to the top of the Hoops' list to replace Neil Lennon. Clarke was the subject of sustained support in the betting as Roy Keane informed Dermot Desmond he no longer wished to be considered for the vacancy.

Keane was later reported to be on his way to Aston Villa as Paul Lambert's assistant while another in the running, Oscar Garcia, accepted a job in Israel with Maccabi Tel Aviv.

Clarke played for St Mirren and Chelsea before working as assistant manage to Jose Mourinho, Avram Grant, Gianfranco Zola and Kenny Dalglish, and finally became a manager in his own right in 2012 when he took over at West Brom.

He was put on gardening leave in December, but is finally free to take up another position.

Brighton are set to speak to him about the manager's job there, but Celtic have a head start.

Sources at Parkhead insist they still have some way to go in their negotiations - Malky Mackay also remains a strong candidate - but the idea of Clarke becoming the next boss is already winning support among the fans.

However, it is not the first time moves have been made to recruit him.

As former boss, Davie Hay, explained, Celtic wanted to sign Clarke when he was starting his career as a full-back with St Mirren, only to lose out to Chelsea, where he went on to play for 12 years.

Hay recalled: "Danny McGrain was coming to the end of his career, and we identified Steve as a young player who could take over from him at right-back.

"He certainly looked to have a bright future, but our offer was not accepted because Chelsea came in with more money.

"Alex Smith was the Saints manager at the time, and, coincidentally, I met him last week and he was reminding me of how we missed out on Steve."

Hay, who had been a supporter of the Hoops' move to make Keane their next manager, believes Clarke would bring a lot of the qualities he had as a player to the Parkhead hot seat.

"Steve has always been very professional in everything he has done, as a player and since he moved into management," said the man who played for Celtic and Chelsea and was dubbed the Quiet Assassin.

Whoever becomes Celtic manager will find games are already arranged.

The original managers list was drawn up on forums like this. The bookies then ran with this list and created a favourite of the least likely candidate to stimulate betting.

The journalists then looked at the favourites in the bookies and wrote stories connecting these players to the job.

Posters then read the papers and look at the bookies list and take there lists as accurate when these are just the lists posters have created in the first place.

I believe this scenario is more credible then most of the media stories.

*Shrugs* Maybe. As I say, we're all speculating at the end of the day, and it doesn't really make a difference who gets names from where, does it?
