The sort of name we should perhaps be looking at. Reasonable success, slightly out the box to what's been mentioned so far, can attract names that realistically would join us, knows the European game etc.

Not that it matters now since he's got a job, but he has achieved more: he's won the Israeli league.

I agree, you would have thought he would have been in with a chance considering that he said he was leaving to become a manager on his own instead of an assistant.

Just give the job to Steve Clarke or Michael Laudrup and end this whole saga.

he'd have been better staying in his job as assistant and he may have got it

I'm guessing that is why he walked?
Knew all this was coming and knew he wouldn't be getting the job?

Cocu, may take a small fee to get him, but he has a tendacy to promote youth and is somewhat regarded as a promising manager.

Point I'm making is, instead of seeking after Coyle, Keane, Jackie, malky and the ilk, lets look to their equivalent in Europe, where a young manager can do well, have some time, buy can bring a different sort of experience to the club.

    That or bilic

Anyone else find this a bit strange..

Before Keane emerged as the favourite, Coyle was about 6/4 favourite.
Keane became favourite, so, naturally, Coyle drifted to about 5/1.
Keane is no longer in the running and Coyle is still 5/1 with Steve Clarke the Even money favourite.

The bookies don't know, the media don't know.

    * knows who is putting on all these bets - its just nonsense.

Collins yes - he has something about him and had a mediocre Hibs playing good football; the rest no for various reasons mainly rooted in lack of SPL experience but mostly because there're simply better options out there. I realise Neil Lennon was inexperienced but I think his appointment was partly rooted in his decent record after taking over, lack of inexpensive, interested better options, severence pay considerations with Mowbray and season ticket sales. He also fit in with the general direction the club was going at the time - buying into potential.

IMO if we're going Scottish it'd have to be Stuart McCall or Derek McInnes. The obvious argument against them is the actual/perceived Rangers connection, but if we ignore this completely and go on results alone it'd be hard to argue against them vs. the other managers in Scotland - they've both transformed their respective sides from mid-table mediocrity.

Aberdeen have made some shrewd signings and play good football; and tactically McInnes did a number on us at least twice this season (ok fair enough probably with a bit of good fortune/bad finishing on our part in at least one of the games) but they're a far cry from the dross Aberdeen fans were watching under Brown (largely), McGhee et al. I also don't think McCall would've secured consecutive 2nd place finishes without tactical nous, man management and an eye for a bargain (albeit Craig Brown probably laid the foundations getting them into top 6 but McCall has certainly built on it). His side also know how to give us a game.

Both are non-starters, but for me they're the two best managers currently employed in the SPL. Jackie Mac and Tommy Wright might be worth a shout from the other SPL managers but I feel I'd rather see how they did next season.

The bookies just know that there is a load of punters known as cronic favourite backers and if there is a huge gamble on someone then the favourite backers will be sure to lump money on it I would never read into anything the bookies do.

Feeling a bit tired of all this now. Whoever comes in, I'll support them. Even Coyle. :54:
