Feel slightly relieved. I think this is the top 3:

    1) Keane
    2) Coyle
    3) Mackay

However, I think that the board will be trying to suss out guys like Laudrup, Petrescu and Garcia and see if they would come.

Really good and clear statement from Lawwell. Three possibilities (in reverse order of probability):

    1) He's lying, not impossible but very unlikely. Lawwell loves his spin but flat out lying is something else.
    2) It's Keane, but Lawwell is being kept out of the loop. This isn't that crazy as there has been some speculation about Desmond bringing Keane in as part of curtailing Lawwell's growing influence at the club.
    3) He's telling the truth. In the absence of further information, surely this is the most parsimonious explanation.

Coyle hysteria was so "last week" and Keane madness will hopefully abate now. I guess we go back to waiting. The one thing we do know is that it won't be Wieghorst, which is a real shame as I reckon most of us would've loved to have him back as manager.

Tbh I think you might be sniggering at that comment as you remember Keane the player who undoubtedly had bundles of determination. The wider point that the OP makes I have to agree with. Management is a different kettle of fish, you need to having confidants, delegate responsibilities, inspire your players, put your arm around the more sensitive ones and kick the * of those who need it etc etc. Keane is only about * kicking and the 'why isn't everyone as great as me'. From his past managerial stints it seems as soon as things start to go wrong he starts pointing the finger at everyone but himself, that lack of self awareness is not a good trait for a manager. Who knows he might have learned a thing or two from MON and prove me wrong.

I think he just finds it hard to get his head round why players who have such a short career would rather enjoy the lifestyle and party than buckle down and achieve something in the game before they're too old. The game is littered with people like Joey Barton and Stan Collymore (or Chic Charnley, for a relatively recent Scottish example) and I don't think Keane expected that having played most of his career in an unusual culture of excellence at Man Utd (think of the attitude to training of people like himself, Ronaldo, Giggs, Scholes, etc).

He'll be more prepared in his next job.

Keane the player had determination, Keane the manager has determination because Keane the person is determined.

I'm glad Lawell came out and said what he said. I don't think Keane will get the job, I actually hold more hope for the likes of Laudrup and Garcia. Despite what the nah-sayers thinks, I actually think Lawell wants to exit the fans with an appointment, if nothing more than to get bums in seats. I'm trusting him, don't let me down.

or He can not come out and say Keane is the leading candidate while they are still talking to other managers. It would be disrespectful to the other candidates. This is not to say he necessarily is.

I think Desmond/Lawwell have taken around 8 candidates into Celtic Park to 'interview' them for the job as such. We normally like to keep these kinds of things very quiet until something concrete comes up. I think it just so happened that Keane is the only one that 'leaked' to the press. I wouldn't be surprised if we were to announce the likes of Steve Clarke or Oscar Garcia as the new manager out of the blue in the coming days.
