Can you name some, because the only European managers I have heard mentioned are Laudrup and Garcia, and only one of those has come out and said anything about the job.

I'd hate that. For one thing we need Broony, and if he goes up against Keane, he'll spend the rest of the season on the bench. For another, if Keane's smart, he'll get Broony onside, he's the perfect buffer between Keane's abrupt style and the players. Kind of a goodcop/bad cop thing.

That's assumung the rumours that it's Keane are true (which I hope).

Alex Ferguson's looking quite bored up in the directors box at Old Trafford, should get him out of retirement for a few seasons.

Republic of Ireland boss Martin O'Neill has insisted he would not stand in Roy Keane's way if he was offered the chance to manage Celtic.
O'Neill's 42-year-old assistant has been heavily linked with the post vacated by Neil Lennon earlier this week despite distancing himself from the role on Friday.
However, as the former Manchester United skipper jetted out to Lisbon in his role as a television pundit for the Champions League final, the Ulsterman was unequivocal when asked what his reply would be should he be asked by Hoops' majority shareholder Dermot Desmond about Keane.
O'Neill said: "I would say that he would make a good manager, I have always said this about Roy Keane. I think the experiences he has had at Sunderland and Ipswich will stand him in good stead.
"He is naturally disappointed by the Ipswich affair, and it's not something he wants to leave.
"He has this opportunity to come with me as my assistant here at this moment, but I have often said to you that he will be a manager, he will be a manager.
"I think this particular element - it's just my view - is good for him. It gives him a chance to look at it, maybe work with somebody with a bit of experience like myself.
"But he will become a manager, there's no question about it.
"Naturally having brought him in, I'd be disappointed if it went through that he's gone, but I wouldn't really be standing in his way in that sense.
"I'd speak to him, I'd speak to [FAI chief executive] John Delaney as well - I think Roy mentioned that the other day - if that's the case, but it is honestly pure speculation at this minute.
"But it doesn't bother me too much at all - or at least I am trying to show that."
"It genuinely isn't a problem to me. Obviously it may well be when he is actually specifically asked for a managerial job. I will deal with that when it comes, if it comes."
Desmond, of course, helped broker the deal which established the unlikely partnership between former Celtic boss O'Neill and Keane as the Football Association of Ireland looked for a replacement for Giovanni Trapattoni.
There were more than a few raised eyebrows when the younger man accepted the subordinate post having previously managed in his own right at both the Stadium of Light and Portman Road.
He was not being mentioned in dispatches for vacancies at the time, but O'Neill has no problem with the fact that his name now appears to be back on the horizon.
He said: "When I took him on in the first place, I can't say I had really thought that particular element of it through.
"It wasn't top of list at the time because he wasn't being mentioned for jobs, but such is the profile of the man that really I probably should have expected it.
"He was linked also as assistant to [Louis] Van Gaal at Manchester United, he is being linked everywhere.
"It genuinely isn't a problem to me. Obviously it may well be when he is actually specifically asked for a managerial job. I will deal with that when it comes, if it comes."
O'Neill's relaxed attitude may stem in part from the fact that the focus of attention has already shifted markedly in the few days since Lennon ended his four-year stay at Parkhead.
Henrik Larsson was swiftly installed as the bookmakers' favourite, prompting a series of questions about him to his one-time manager as he held his Republic press conference on Thursday afternoon, although the Swede has since slipped in the reckoning.
O'Neill said: "When we were doing a press conference, Henrik Larsson was nailed on for it, and then suddenly he was nailed off again, so I don't know how serious it is at all.
"If it arrives, then I'll deal with it, if that's the case."

Also, great player though Broony is, Keane was better (world class, in fact) in a very similar position. I imagine he can really develop Brown and maybe take him to the next level.

Starting to warm to the idea of Keane as manager. He's a more inspired appointment than someone like Coyle or Mackay. If we're not going to go down the route I'd like us to and go for a continental manager then I suppose Keane is the best choice.

It'd be interesting, that's for sure.

Roy Keane can get to * he's a failed manager.

And that's not even a bold statement. He has never done well in management.

It may shock you but I don't give a * about the Irish national team.

Some Celtic fans are too fickle. Stokes walked out on Ireland...a la Keane and Stokes rejected Celtic for EPL... a la Coyle.

I disagree. Nothing Roy Keane has previously been involved in will have come remotely as close to the day-to-day pressure that goes with the Celtic managers job.

Not the Haangeland affair, not the McCarthy affair, not the Fergie affair...

Sure, he has played at the highest level and there is stress there, but it's not the same.

Also the guy never accepts excuses from himself for failure. The fact that he accepted an assistant position (which many managers would have been too proud to do) and under MON of all people speaks volumes: it tells you that he won't let his pride get in the way of success and that he knows he needs to work on his man management (MON is one of the best in the world at that).

    You sure about that?

I seem to recall him taking Sunderland from the bottom of the Championship to the Premiership.

It may shock your tiny little mind, but it would bother our Irish supporters.

Or is that too much to comprehend?

He didn't do that badly at Sunderland tbh.

Keane's style is exaggerated by all accounts. He worked his team hard and he harshly punished wee fannies like Liam Miller who were turning up late to training.

As long as he doesn't sign a *-load of ex Man Utd players then I'm ok with him.

It will be a few days yet before we hear who got the job .
Deadline day has been extended as we know , and Peter
Will want a lot of bums on seats before letting us all down .
If renewals are slow , we may get a more exciting manager.

A European manager wont transform the style of football we're capable of playing. It doesn't matter where the manager's from, they can adjust the long-term strategy to a more possession based, free flowing style regardless.

What philosophy of football can we continue? It's transient, changes with every season and every manager.

The most important criteria a Celtic manager has to have is the ability to win consistently. Fortunately for whoever gets the job, they'll be able to experiment with tactics and strategies and still likely win the league.
