No but he might not want the job because of the lack of league competition....and here lies the problem facing The Board.

On the one hand are the Managers we would love to have, but on the other is the fact that apart from CL qualifiers and possible group matches the lack of competition puts them off. To put it another way, to us we are a big Club and yes we have a Huge heritage and great reputation but in the context of the challenge facing Managers, apart from Europe, there nothing. In European context each year we struggle to maintain a real competitive edge. Look at our coefficient, which apart from our 'last 16 year' is very low.

So if we struggle to sign real high quality players but instead go for the 'value' option, why should it be any different when it comes to Managers ? So for Laudrup, why after his success in Spain and with Swansea, would he want to test himself against the likes of Hamilton or Ross x4 in a year ? Sadly I think we are going to end up with an untried but enthusiastic young guy , eg Lenny or someone who can't get into the 1st Team or a contract in the top Leagues , eg Commons and so we end up with someone like Coyle. If it was my decision, I would go for the young, relatively untried, enthusiastic option, either Garcia ex Brighton or Petev, Limassol.

Honestly though if Laudrup was on he verge of signing for Grenada, then surely he would jump at the chance to sign with us? We will also be giving him (surely) a larger salary and he was only on £500k a year with Swansea.

Surely we are bigger and more attractive than them, bar the weather....

I don't think Laudrup will take another job in England yet.

I was actually thinking that Lennon could end up at Southampton and take Hooper with him as well. Could you imagine he took over and tried to sign Van Dijk :smiley-laughing002:

See I was talking about this with my brother in the car today, I wonder if Lennon made a promise to not sign any of our players like you hear some managers do

I think Lenny's more likely to end up in the Championship initially, but in the event that he did get an EPL job this summer, I'd be amazed if he didn't at least make a bid for Van Dijk

Wish Yakin would throw his hat in the ring for the job here.

Lenny isn't good enough for Southampton, no chance he'll get a job at a top 10 English team.

I wonder how many people on this thread have read the book "Soccernomics".

This is a well researched book which analyzed thousands of games in dozens of leagues, and which concluded that the choice of manager has a statistically insignificant effect on results. The most significant factor in any league is the size of the wage bill of the team. In other words, the authors claim, Sir Alex Ferguson would not have won 13 titles with the squad of Wigan, and the squad of Manchester United would have done well if operating as a worker’s collective.

From an SPFL viewpoint, if you accept this book's conclusions, Celtic's wage bill is so far ahead of any other team's that we would win the league with a randomly selected schoolmistress as boss.

So I think we need to calm down a wee bit and stop acting as if the choice of manager is a life and death thing for our club.

Science tells us it is far from that.

See I don't think Lennons style of football would go down well with the Saints fans now to be honest, they will want someone creative.

Yep, these are the sort of managers I would hope we are approaching but he is very much a long shot. Destined for big things imo. Although he is still young and that might not appeal to PL clubs just now, therefore you never know and with the appeal of Europe.....
