Would be a massive backwards step appointing Coyle now. Boring on so many levels.

The more I think about it the more I realize it will be Coyle, they might try Moyes but it will eventually be Coyle. Kind of fills me with dread.

My history is a little hazey but didn't DD veto Hiddink before he appointed MON because he felt he didn't have the club at heart or something similar?

On this basis I reckon he will appoint someone previously associated with the club rather than Garcia etc.

Think McKay will be our next manager 5/4 with hills. Pretty pleased about this even though I want Steve Clark. Also seen Martin Jol is in betting. Anybody else think he wouldbe a real good manager for us.

Yes, however I don't believe this is similar. MON is Irish, and a brilliant up and coming manager. He also admired Celtic. Coyle isn't really that similar. Hiddink was also dragging his heels quite a bit regarding coming to Celtic - he was basically holding out for a better offer.

    martin jol anybody?

Just a name I seen in betting. Although he got sacked at Fulham. He had a very good spell there playing some superb football. Has also done well with spurs and Ajax. Also has the Dutch football philosophy and wouldn't cost apenny

In a heartbeat. He made Tottenham a consistent top 6 team aswell and can pick a player.

I'd take him yes. Experience of european football and has plenty of connections which never hurts.

well the one thing we dont need is some smart * with a huge ego getting rid of our whole squad that would be terrible and i dont want that no matter who gets the job, we arent some english club with infinite resources

and our first team squad is excellent in my opinion

so whoever it is it should be a first team coach i don't want anyone playing fast and loose with the whole club you only need to look across the city to see what happened there

and another thing there's hundreds of managers out there we don't need to pick one from a betting house or tabloid list why should we be limited to their * choices ?

Not sure if it's true, but Jol was meant to have rejected Den Haag because he has a clause in his pay-off from Fulham that his money will stop/be reduced if he accepted a new job (similar to Di Matteo at Chelsea).

He's worked under some of the best footballing brains in the game as well. Not to mention he came through La Masia youth academy at Barcelona. Would be an exciting appointment.

As Tommy Docherty said in the papers yesterday, it has to go to someone who lives and breathes the club. Someone like Coyle.

    * it.... the league is won before a ball is kicked and Peter is the one signing the players.... we should just appoint a guy for one season and wait for the King of Kings next season..

so what guy would take the job for a year ? i think we should offer it to the one and only Mr Craig Whyte :icon_mrgreen:

I was talking to a few Tims in the pub last night and it would be fair to say there was no unanimous choice amongst them. One guy wanted Jackie MacNamara and someone else wanted Davie Moyes but the only thing everybody seemed to agree on was that they did not want Owen Coyle or Malky Mackay!

I've sat and looked at all the main candidates for the job and the only conclusion I have reached so far is that none of them excite me. There's no one guy who jumps out at me and looks like a great choice, they all have drawbacks attached to them.

Owen Coyle - I really, really don't want him. He doesn't come across to me as a man who has the stature a Celtic manager should. He also turned the job down in the past to stay at Burnley(* Burnley!) and while some may be willing to overlook that, I am not.

Malky Mackay - I'm not convinced by him. Seems like a nice enough big guy but his CV is patchy and I just don't have a good feeling about him. I fear he'd be out of his depth at Champions League level.

Jackie MacNamara - Jackie is one of my favourite ever Celtic players so my heart would love to see him get the job but my head is saying it's too soon for him. Two or three years from now could well be his time.

Davie Moyes - Moyes is far and away the best manager being linked to the job. So it should be an obvious choice to want him, right? Well.......no. I have a feeling that life under Moyes would be very much like life under Gordon Strachan. We'd win lots of trophies but the football would often be crap to watch. Given that I spent most of Strachan's reign moaning about how * the football was to watch and wanting him out the door, I don't really want to go through that again. There are some Celtic fans who don't care what the football looks like as long as we're winning. I'm afraid I ain't one of them. I do believe in playing football 'The Celtic Way' and some style and flair in our play is an absolute must for me.

Steve Clarke - Dull as dishwater. No thanks.

Henrik Larsson - He's not really a candidate anymore as he's ruled himself out of the running. I'm kinda relieved to be honest. The thought of him coming here as manager and it not working out just doesn't bear thinking about. Leave the legend in tact.

Of the names I've listed above I'd probably, if pushed, go for either Jackie MacNamara or Davie Moyes. MacNamara would have us playing good football and there is always the chance he would grow into the job as he went along. Moyes is the best manager on the list so if we went for him it would be common sense to do so. I really do worry about the style of football we're going to be watching if he took the job though.

Exactly. He has never actually played for us, alot of people talk as if he has. Not to mention he supposedly rejected us before. Not holding it against him just saying.

Malky Mackay is probably more of a Celtic man and a better manager.
