I think the appointment of Oscar Garcia would excite the players too. It would encourage guys like Forster and Van Dijk to stay.

Exactly, plenty of technically good players in the squad such as Virgil, Johansen, Commons, Stokes, Mulgrew, Pukki...

I didn't know either I was agreeing to the Barcelona style. Just checked the guy out in that article...seems ok, seems he's been managing Brighton - anyone seen them this season? Any Good?

Only watched their play-off semi against Derby where they were just out-played but I think they've been pretty impressive otherwise. Was a candidate to replace Martino at Barca and I'm sure he was Cruyff's assistant a few years ago

Used to play for Barcelona. Worked as Cruyff's right hand man with the Catalonia side.

Went to Maccabi Tel Aviv for one season and won their first title for about 10 years. He left for personal reasons. Then went to Brighton and finished 6th. I haven't watched them at all this season but I've heard they have played good football. Lost to Derby in the play-offs. Left the club after that defeat.

Claims he has turned down a lot of attractive job offers because they don't feel right. Apparently wanted by Malaga, West Brom..

    Interesting...sounding better and better.

Above all, I want someone who will give us a footballing identity. It would be cool to play the same way in Europe and the league, attacking, possession based football. Maybe this guy could do that. I really like Jackie Mac, and I think he would also try to play good football, and there must be others. But this guy sounds interesting.

I remember us being linked with Martinez before he went to Wigan, I think. I wonder if this guy is cut from the same cloth...

Yep, could well be another Martinez and be a revelation for us.

We could win the league with anyone in charge, no question. But what Garcia could bring to the tablr might have a massive impact on the way we play in europe. IMO we NEED a guy like this, someone who is cultured and makes his teams comfortable on the ball. We have good players that would adapt, Garcia could be the missing ingredient here.

Wouldn't it be great to see Celtic outplaying teams in Europe for once? If he is interested we SERIOUSLY need to act on it, and fast. Won't get my hopes up though as I'm certain it will be hoofball Coyle.

The thing is these types of managers require funds, are the board going to give them them?

Without Rangers in the league there is no impitus to spend large sums of money. I don't think any new manager can effect a great deal of change without it.

    Whatever.
West Brom, Middlesborough, or whoever the point still stands. We picked a manager in Mowbray who just got his team relegated from the EPL to the Championship, not a very inspired choice.
Garcia would be a high risk caricature of Tony Mowbray IMO..

Not necessarily. We've a young and adaptable squad, some decent ball players as well. If we need new signings, there will be a bit of cash and selling one of Forster or Van Dijk would raise more.
