I woke up a baby deer at 5am on my way to work today!!It looked so peaceful at first I thought it had died. So I clapped my hands out the window to make sure it was alive, it got up walked about 20 yards and went back to sleep behind a wall. 5am is still nearly dark. Don't think it was best pleased with me!!!:52:

Humans are the vermin......the foxes dont have conscious thought, they merely attempt to live and breed, like every single other creature on this planet.
If we did not create the circumstances for them to be so prevalent, they would not be so.They are opportunists like the vast majority of animals and cannot be blamed in any way for the amount of waste food we so casually dispose of, which encourages seagulls, crows and foxes to adapt to our environment. They are not to blame, we are.

Edit - Just found out this is a wood wasp. Which is actually not a wasp at all. Wish I knew that at the time, would have got better pictures.

Black Tom - I bet the guy whose bonnet you hit isn't pleased.

I live out in the cuds and take my dog out for about an hour and a half at least five times a week first thing in the morning (currently about half past six). I love seeing all the wildlife about here. There’s a couple of wee farms on my route so I see the normal things but one of the farmers has mad animals including alpacas, buffaloes & wallabies – not what you would expect to see in Dorset.

We were going up a steep narrow path a few days ago when a couple of deer clambered through the hedge about 5 metres in front, saw us and sprinted up the hill – the dog was going mad, luckily I had him on a lead. I often see foxes & badgers and big birds like cranes & buzzards – quite close as well.

I was brought up in the city, do I have a yearning to go back? Do I *!!

Great show mate. Absolutely love Whales, especially Humpbacks. They had some stunning shots of Humpbacks in the first show.

Going through to Aberlady Bay in the next few days. Been a few times. you can get great sightings of Little Egrets, Whimbrel, Hobbys, Curlew, Godwits and all manner of ducks. Great place for birdwatching.

Well said. But I can understand the other poster's point of view as well.

I live in the Hunter Valley of New South Wales, and flying foxes (large fruit bats that are a protected species in this state) have progressively appeared in each town heading north, in some cases in massive colonies numbering in the thousands. I think it's an amazing sight, but the polarisation of opinion has been incredible, with most people wanting the bats destroyed. In Tamworth, which is a major regional inland city of around 40,000, the bats have taken over the main park in the middle of the city. It's an incredible sight, the bats are quite large and wheel around in the sky in the hundreds and hundreds before they roost. It's an impressive sight, but also a little confronting. They denude the trees, and have a strong musky odour that permeates everything in the vicinity. Some bat species in this country also carry a virulent virus, I think transmitted through their saliva and blood, but not their faeces, that can be fatal to humans, and has had a strong negative impact on the equine industry. Generally, people have come to terms with the presence of the bats, I think (they don't have much choice), but others tend towards panic and just want them to move on.

I have seen them mate.....just once, on my one and only time doing the touristy thing having a pint at the Opera House.Amazing sight.

I know its a tough one when animals get out of control, but its when we interfere, that things generally go wrong.ie, those Cane toads over there!

Yes, definitely. I agree with you completely.

I've seen the bats at Sydney Harbour/the Opera House, too. It's an incredible sight. HH.
