How can you possibly judge the best 32 teams. Does victory over the likes of Milan/Manure/Barca count for anything or in your mind is it only the on paper team.

Football in the real world is not like the PC game. The ability of a team is not the sum of its individuals but the ability of the team as a whole to perform.

Rosenborg participated in the group phase of the Champions League eleven times in the 13 years between 1995 to 2007. Eight of them were consecutive (from 1995 to 2002), which was a record until 2004, when Manchester United qualified for the group phase for a ninth successive year. By many like yourself Rosenborg would not have been considered in the top 32 teams in Europe despite their success.

The above is not justification for Celtics inclusion in the top 32 in Europe however is does leave it open to interpretation.

MJALLBY says that he and Lennon both felt that they couldn't take the club to the next level in the current financial environment.

JOHAN MJALLBY reckons he and Neil Lennon had become stale at Celtic – unable to advance the club any further due to the financial restraints.

The Swede left his post as Parkhead assistant manager a month ago to seek a fresh challenge.

Last midweek, Lennon chose to follow the same path, with confirmed news of the departure breaking on Thursday.

Mjallby confessed that the pair had decided they could do no more to improve the side in the current cash climate.

He said: “We have been used to winning titles but it comes to a point when you see that we might not be able to really improve that team as much as we want to.

“We had four great seasons there and did well in Europe with the financial impact we had been working with.

“The players deserve plaudits for that also. We’re quite proud of what we achieved and we’ve put Celtic back on the European map.

“It’s not been a poor four years but you sit down and speak to each other during the season. We both felt it was time for a new challenge.

“It might be together and it might not be but I’m still sad. I didn’t really know until a few days ago that he was really thinking of leaving Celtic.

“It was something I had been thinking of for some time and it looks like Neil came to the same conclusion.

“You don’t want to get stale in a job. We’ve done well and improved but you need to be brave and say that you’re getting stale and not improving.

“Even if you go to a lesser team size wise, you will be working with new players, new challenges and new goals.”

Mjallby believes that Lennon would consider going down the rungs of the English ladder to help him reach his target of the Premier League.

He said: “I definitely think he would consider a top Championship side where he can see he has a chance to make a name for himself and the club.

“Maybe he could see it as a chance to progress with the team and do something really well.”

Mjallby is also on the lookout for work but admits that could come alongside Lennon again.

He said: “This changes things a wee bit. If Neil gets back into it, I’m not saying I would expect a call but we worked well together and I might get the chance to continue working with him.

“If I stay in Sweden, I would be more likely to try as a No.1.”

Mjallby, meanwhile, admits he can see the logic in his former club going for Henrik Larsson.

The Swedish pair were team-mates for both club and country and Mjallby knows that the popularity of his compatriot could make him a good appointment.

Mjallby said: “I can see the glamour thing with Henrik. He’s doing quite well with quite a small team in the top league in Sweden. This is his first season in the top flight but he is the King of Kings in Glasgow and he would probably put bums back on seats too.

“I don’t know how they’re thinking at Celtic. It looks like Peter Lawwell knew a wee bit about Neil thinking of leaving, so I’m sure they’ve been planning for it.

Probably been mentioned, however I missed all of this chat.

I don't believe Lennon intended to leave months ago. Don't get me wrong, I was firmly in the camp of 'he's hoaring himself out to England' - he was! However, I do believe he would have stayed maybe 2-3 more years. Remember the title-winning celebrations at Firhill Stadium? Lenny clearly said to Griffiths (you can hear it) 'there'll be plenty more of this to come!' with an absolute grinner - who would say that and in that manner, whilst in the mind-set of that of a man who is leaving. Even the title celebrations aswell, he looked jubilant, not a man who was thinking about leaving.

It all seemed very suss, back-doorish and done like a * - Lennon is not that. If he planned on leaving ages ago he would have told us ages ago and helped us come to terms with it (he loves this club and Glasgow).

In my mind I think its a culmination of our down-sizing, Lawwells continuous and over-bearing hand of authhority and then probably being told by Peter that this summer we will more than likely sell VVD and or Forster, whilst not really investing much. He has probably then though - '* that, I'l leave whilst my stock is still high enough, rather than facing the down-sizing and possibility of * up and thus, ruining my reputation.'

I am gutted Neil left, it was too sudden. I don't know where we go from here - football is totally different now.

    Anyway, onwards and upwards! :shamrock:

I was thinking that if scum rises to the top, then sooner than later sevco might end up in the SPFL. Given that scenario and considering what the atmosphere around us and them games will be like (I'm imagining hunnery the likes we have seldom seem in a while)

I don't think it's out of the question to contemplate that Lennon was best to part Celtic for family reason's, Potential safety concerns etc ahead of sevco's arrival. * being specifically Neil Lennon anywhere inside Ibrox after what happened to them.

That is disregarding if lenny moved because of ambition or lack of funds, I think his hand would have been forced when/if sevco get into the SPFL.

Did anyone see that Ambrose is saying that NL told the dressing room that he was staying only a few weeks ago. Something has went on behind the scenes to change his mind.

Aye, I did say 'in my mind'. There is no way I can prove it 100% - it is just my view of it, rightly or wrongly.

But it doesn't take a genius to work out that one of them will probably be sold this Summer - that is what we do now. Maybe Lennon couldn't be bothered with that.

It has also became clear that we are - to an extent - downsizing, this wasn't due to Neil. Its due to Lawwell. Im not sure what his plan or vision is though.
