    Congratuations Germany, well deserved!

But Argentina were a great opponent that day. Could have won as well. Much better side than Brazil!!!!

Watched the game again there and have to say Argentina got their tactics spot on and were the better team on the day and it was theirs to lose: they lost it (through astonishingly wasteful finishing for such quality players) rather than Germany winning it. Have only seen two games with Argentina (final and semi) and am a bit stunned that Messi won POTT. In both the final and semi-final Mascherano was the best player on the pitch. Zabaleta, who I admit I knew little about, really impressed me also. Only Germany players that impressed me were Schweinsteiger (second best player on the pitch), Lahm and Boateng in that order.

Having said all that I wanted Germany to win and am delighted that they did so.

I am a fan of Messi and I have to totally agree. Him getting the Golden Ball award was a joke. For me it should have been Arjen Robben. But certainly Messi was no where near deserving of that. Credit to Argentina who were brilliant defensively when I as well as many others thought that was their achillies heel from the get go of the finals. But Germany overall deserved to win and be World Champions.

Stuck £10 on Germany on e/w to win the tourney at 11/2 before it kicked off. :50:

I knew they would have a pretty easy route to the semis and they were likely to meet Brazil or Spain, the Spanish going out early was a bonus.

Thoroughly deserved winners for me, would have been a travesty if Argentina had won it, they were rank rotten in the group stages and got through the semis by suffocating the game. Over 300 minutes without a goal says it all. Mascherano was their best player by a mile, hilarious that Messi got player of the tournament.

Thought Chile were a real breath of fresh air and unlucky not to progress further.

Highlights for me were the 'go for it' attitude of the majority of the teams in the group stages, plus it was also pleasing to see the sensible attitude taken by officials. I don't have the statistics to hand, but I reckon that must be one of the lowest red-card counts in recent major tournaments, so many previous tournament games were ruined by card-happy refs, there definitely seemed to have been an instruction to show more discretion.

Fabulous tourney, miss it already. :54:

Rossenspeil mate you really must have watched a totally different game from the rest of if you think Argentina suffocated the semi final match against Holland. It was actually the other way around. Argie tried to play.

Would be interesting to here other people's thought on that game though?

Wasn't overly impressed with the dutch in that game either, probably the worst game of the tournament.

I quite loved the (almost) invincible Mexican goal keeper G. Ochoa....

Were they? Argentina was the team that wanted penalties from the second half in, not the other way around. We both weren't too impressive, but that's complete nonsense mate.

Holland only opened up in the last ten minutes of the match and really had a go. You's closed up shop most of the match.

    They are a class act.

But Flamengo ain't the Bahia local team. That will leave a sour taste in the mouth :icon_mrgreen:

"It is time to leave. Thanks for the open doors and welcoming us with such warmth and love, I want to take this opportunity to apologize on behalf of the entire team for directly or indirectly causing you to have any kind of pain.'

'These five weeks were fantastic. I have grown a lot as a person and an athlete. Having stayed in Brazil for this amount of time has meant that we have learned to give more value to what we have, and I already miss the people of Santa Cruz (Cabrália).'

    'We will leave a legacy.'

'We're leaving, but our hearts are still here and one day I'll be back.'
