Aguero and Higuain were really poor this tournament. Lavezzi was alright but I don't think he is world class even on his best day. Di Maria was pretty good imo but obviously he was hurt for the semi and the final.

The defensive unit of Argentina was great this tournament, their attacking options other than Messi were really bad though

What young players do Argentina have coming through at the moment?

Her and John Terry would be a perfect match. Wonder if she had an Argentina top just in case. :icon_mrgreen:

Agree with everything you say here:50: Although a must point out Aguero was never fully fit. A fully fit Aguero would have been massive alongside Messi in attack

Think this is a cracking time for international football. The South American teams seem to be improving all the team, the Copa America should be exciting.

Now Germany could be the next Spain in terms of dominating the European scene, they have a lot of quality young players.

Yes, I think Aguero is a great player but as you say he wasn't fit and he really struggled to make any kind of impact throughout the tournament.

Just realised that just now. 2016 hosted in the US. Should be brilliant.

Chile will be good as well.

Yeah, he still might get his chance though in Russia.

He was definitely in the top 3 (my top 3 is Muller, Messi, James... in that order). I still think he was the victim of his team perhaps not showing up against Brazil.... had they got through that he could have won it.

I completely disagree.... my definition of world class is someone who could easily walk into any team on the planet. Mascherano, Higuain and Lavezzi most certainly wouldn't, Di Maria.... again he'* and miss. Zabaleta maybe is border-line world class.

    Sorry meant, quarters.

Di Maria has world class talent when he's at his absolute best, but when he's bad he's really really bad and almost hinders his team, he has too many bad games for me.

Ozil has already proven at Real Madrid he's world class, and at times for Germany. Also talent wise, I'm talking about pure talent here,he's arguably the most talented German player in quite a while.... it's a shame he's stagnated a bit over the past 12 months.

They are all world class players. This was seven games. An important seven games but it has no real effect on the overall quality of these players. Poorish tournament =/= not world class.

They made a world cup final even though they played "*" (to some) yet they aren't very good. These players, Agüero especially are absolute beasts on the pitch.

It's like I said, if you read this thread from the beginning you'd think that some of the top teams are made up of * that couldn't make it in the Latvian 3rd division. It's mind-boggling.

Mascherano, a key figure in the greatest club side ever isn't world class.

    OK :56:

Agree Ozil is world class as a do with Di Maria, a thought at the time Madrid were mad to sell him. But this tournament he's been decent at best. Some of the games he really has been average. He's like Di Maria in that when he is bad he's really bad! Like he goes missing you forget he's playing. But I know what you mean by "pure talent" and agree.

Well, again my definition still stands in my opinion. He was never first choice for them when Puyol and Pique were both fit in defence and Busquets was fit in the holding role. Also I'd consider him a liability as a centre back the majority of the time in recent years which has coincidentally coincided with the demise of the great Barcelona since 2011. As a holding midfielder he's great defensively but never world class.

If Mascherano is world class it just goes to show it doesn't take a lot to be world class these days.
