    James Rodriguez has been the best player by far, 6 goals in 2 assists is outstanding. Messi has been alright but not great.

    Can you really give that award for someone who got knocked out in the semi-finals? As I said any of the Germans were probably more rewarding of it, however does it really matter? All that matters is the winners of the actual world cup.

    Argentina aren't really a poor side though. They've had bad luck with players not being fully fit like Aguero and DiMaria. Zabaleta, Garay, Mascherano and Lavezzi can't really be described as poor players.

    Messi himself seems to have lost some of his sharpness from the hamstring injuries he has suffered.

    Individually they've got a lot of talent but as a team I don't think they're up to much at all...definitely not the second best team of the tournament for me.

    Messi is their only world class player (possibly Aguero on his day, Di Maria can do world class things but is hit and miss), Germany are littered with world class players in every position, Schweinstiger, Muller, Ozil, Lahm, Kroos, Neuer....etc.

    Most world cup winning teams are filled with world class talent throughout their line-up, without Messi Argentina would be a Belgium level team, which is good-ish but will never ever challenge for major honours.
