No idea what the point of a 3rd/4th place match is both teams disappointed after missing out on the final and it will probably be a * game decided by pens

There's probably a massive difference in prize money between 3rd and 4th place though which is why they play it. I do agree though, it seems pointless as no player who's just lost a World Cup semi final is really going to give a * about whether they finish 3rd or 4th.

I actually don't mind the 3rd place play-off game. It can sometimes end up quite a good game, as both teams can play with all the freedom they want. There is no real pressure on the players, or the managers for that matter. The game can sometimes be better than the final in my opinion.

Last 3rd place play off was a cracker 4-3 I think it was.

    2 million euro's I just heard.

Anyways, I'm cool like Fonzie again today. We did great with this squad. I didn't expect it and am happy that it lasted this long again. Still thought we were slightly better though over the entire match. :icon_mrgreen:

Looking forward to the final, i like both nations. I would prefer the Argies to win, for Messi but wouldn't mind seeing Tamba and Lahm win it.

Argentina have looked good at the back, going forward they have been poor. Higuain etc have been poor. Most teams they have played against have played alot of bodies behind the ball, crowding Messi out. Germany have looked good, will be interesting if they play a high line against Argentina

Did you notice that when he shouldered it, he tried to hide the fact he touched it, then as he was walking away he had a glance back to see if it crossed?

Guaranteed he would've went to the ref screaming if it had have crossed the line :smiley-laughing002:

BRASILIA: Brazil football legend Romario, now a lawmaker, said on Wednesday that the sport’s chiefs should serve prison time for the national team’s humiliating 7-1 World Cup defeat to Germany.
One day after the semi-final thrashing, Romario said the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) was plagued by corruption.
“Our football has been deteriorating for years,” said Romario in a letter posted in social media. “It is being dragged down by leaders who don’t even have the talent to juggle the ball.
“They stay in their luxury box seats, enjoying the millions that go into their accounts.”
The prolific striker said players and coaches were not to blame for the sport’s deterioration.
He said CBF president Jose Maria Marin and his deputy Marco Polo del Nero, who will take over in 2015, ‘should be in prison’.
Romario, a critic of the record $11 billion spent on the tournament, bemoaned the fact that President Dilma Rousseff will have to hand the World Cup trophy to a team other than Brazil in Sunday’s final.
“They will leave with the Cup and we will be left with our overbilled stadiums and no material legacy,” he said. “This will be the Cup of shame.”
Meanwhile, the agent of star striker Neymar, Wagner Ribeiro, set out a six-point list of “technical requirements” for the coach that made barbed references to Scolari, without specifically mentioning him.
The boss should have “trained Portugal and won nothing”, he said in the Twitter statement.
He should go to Chelsea and be ‘sacked’, coach in Uzbekistan then return to Brazil ‘and take a good team into the second division’.
The coach should be “arrogant and ridiculous,” he added.
