    It's easy to love a footballer that is so gifted like Messi(talking football ability here, not * size). And from there you only want to see that player do well.

    Special mention should go to Mascherano by the way, he deserves it just as much as Messi and has been just as influential at the back for them.

    Unsung hero of the tournament for me.

    You had one shot on goal over 120 minutes - a fairly tame long-range shot by Robben. You have to realize that you're almost a victim of your previous success on this forum. The Netherlands used to be the team of the neutrals. People used to look forward to a party on the field that was only approached by the party the fans off of it could throw. The talent that has been produced is incredible, and even that is still available is incredible. So you play a back 5 against Costa Rica? As impressive as the younger players are, what's the gameplan for when Robben leaves? It's just a sad state of affairs for people who enjoyed watching the Dutch. Don't take it personally. And Ajax didn't help.

    Apart from Robben's half chance - immense from Mascherano - Argentina were slightly better, Palacios/Higuian and Maxi all should've scored.

    I wasn't talking about Messi or Robben, was actually responding to the "thought we were the best team" comment. Those tears clouding your vision? * sake I was trying to give a reasonable explanation for why people have been against the Dutch this tournament.

    Yeah, I made this point myself to friends. I thought that the BBC and ITV would come out with something along the lines of "Er, the World Cup has been cancelled due to unforeseen circumstances."

    Lawrenson and Townsend are going to need some serious counselling after this.
