He was fined and suspended while they investigated, then sacked with immediate effect. Leigh's punishment is already not going to reach that level, as he hasn't been fined and is still playing.

I see what you're saying. Depending on how you look at it griffiths did worse. But that was off the park so I'm guessing that's why he is being treated lighter. You never know though, with Lawwell around he might still be sacked yet.

And regarding the undisclosed figure, there is no need for it to be disclosed. The other poster, you are saying you don't want to know yourself, nobody else needs to.

I have a feeling Lawwell is the one making Lennon go back on his word about sacking players for racist behavior. It would be a waste of money after all... we all know how Peter loves his money.

An anti-semitic gesture which was never intended to be humerous or 'banter' isn't really comparable.

So what Griffiths sung has just banter?

Anelka claims the gesture was meant as support for his friend who had been convicted of anti-Semitic crimes. Still did it, was still punished.

Griffiths could claim it was 'humerous banter'. Still sung it, should still be punished... but not sacked.

Anyway, I'm done. We will see what happens when the investigation is done.

What planet do you live on? Where an affair ranks as serious as racism?

Said it before and I'll say it again. You've lost the plot ya screwball.

That's the thing. Lawwell only cares about money, nothing else. So if he thinks not sacking Griffiths will hurt us financially in anyway he will sack him without a doubt.

Anyway, I agree with the other poster too, the gesture anelka made was on the park and blatantly racist in front of a worldwide audience.

Griff sang an inappropriate song in the pub boozing with his mates. Not very comparable.

They are different, but both racist... I'm not saying Griffiths's punishment should be the same. I just wondered how you felt about the sacking, that is why I brought it up. You could say Griffiths was in front of a worldwide audience, there were a number of mobile phones out, he knew fine well it would be shared around.

If Griffiths did a * salute, aye he would deserved to be sacked.

However, I am seeing it differently. He was boozing with his mates having a laugh and made the mistake of not being professional about his choice of chants. It could be said that I have the green tinted specs on in that regard but to be honest, If I was neutral I think I would see it from the same view.

We will just agree to disagree on this one Mcewan, I can see where you are coming from, but would hope you can see my side too.

I don't think setting a bad example to the young is the main reason Griffiths may face punishment. I'm not comfortable with the idea of punishing people for setting a bad example. I'm not really comfortable with the idea of punishment itself to be honest. I just don't want people with racist views involved in our club because of what our club means to me and many others. This basically means something has to be done to educate him about why what he did was racist and why racism is wrong or he has to be shipped out. This is what I want to see. I don't want him punished per se for being ignorant, stupid and desperate to be loved (in this case by Hibs fans).
The thing with punishment IMO is that to do it you have to set yourself up in judgement of the person rather than just the action. Now with both Giggs and Griffiths, who am I to set myself up in judgement of them? If others are comfortable with that, fair * to them, I'm not. I'm certainly no better than either of them. I am, however, comfortable with judging actions and views/beliefs and therefore feel entitled as a Celtic fan to demand that such actions and such views cease to be a part of Celtic Football Club, whether due to educating Griffiths (my preferred option) or selling him in the next window.

Edit: and MacEwan's right: as soon as the threat of a criminal charge is gone, he has to apologise.

I see TimMalloy managed to snare a few last night. Throw in a few "offended's", "Left Wing Liberals" and the like and there you have 10 pages of utter dross.

So if sing "(insert name) is a * *", while doing a wee dance and laughing while I do it, I can pass that off as banter?
