So if this is a point in Celtic's Scottishness then we arent very Scottish anymore.

Tripe. Southampton are not even close to being as big as Celtic and therefore have nowhere near the same potential as Celtic. If we were playing in the English top tier there would only be one club bigger than us.

No they dont, so an Irish manager, with a squad from all over the planet with fans in the stands from all over the planet represent Scotland when we play foreign teams?

We are no different when we play in Europe than we are when we play in the League or Cups.

Everton would give us a better game than Ajax and Spartak and just as good a game as Benfica or Milan IMO. We would be competing for the title in 5 years I think in England.

Man City got a big investment because they were in the EPL. Do you think their sugar daddy invested in them because they had such fabulous players?

Just because we are a bigger club than most of the teams in the Premier League doesn't guarantee success.

Yeah and you said people would be upset about us being called Scottish. The same attempt at trolling just from the opposite side of the coin.

It would take more than two seasons (which I'd be surprised if we even lasted 2 seasons in the EPL) to amass the wealth it would take to compete for the top positions in the EPL required to make European football. After two seasons with a LOT of luck we'd maybe make 13th-15th place and then maybe we'd start investing in some better talent but don't think that just because we join the EPL the board is going to invest in some top quality players its not going to happen. Especially not with this current board we have. I'd be very, very, very surprised if Celtic did not end up in the Championship if we started playing in England. And I would be absolutely flabbergasted if we ever played in the Champions League ever again.

I agree. That is modern football though. It is the same everywhere.

I would like to see a set up similar to what Athletic Bilbao have. It doesn't seem to prevent them competing at the highest level. It would benefit the international side as well.

I would like to see every Scottish club do this actually. It was the cost of clubs bringing in expensive foreign players that have contributed to the financial problems many clubs are facing.

I'd rather try and make our league better. We should try and exhaust all possible options of achieving that first. And even after that, I'm not really too fussed about moving to the EPL.

If you look around all the major European leagues you will find that the biggest clubs are at the top almost every season. We would be no different. It would take us a few seasons to establish ourselves but once we got acclimatised to playing down there we would be up there challenging for the title.

Bottom clubs in the EPL don't have the fanbase or global brand that we do. The 60k crowds would return and many players would favour us over your bog standard English side.

I'm not necessarily an advocate of joining the EPL, but we'd instantly be one of the biggest clubs in the league and within a few seasons I'd like to think that we'd be competing for a Champions League spot. It doesn't matter how we compare player by player right now, as that's totally irrelevant given the huge increase in finances available. We do well enough now on a shoestring budget. Imagine what we could do with EPL millions.

You do realise that WITHOUT the same television revenue the EPL clubs get, Celtic still make roughly the same revenue as Everton and below.

If we are in this mode of thought (which I dislike), whereby we are playing in the EPL, then we would have at least an extra £50m in television revenue, ticket prices could be increased by 50% and people would still pay (althogh I am pushing it there), our sponsorship would increase dramatically ( I don't understand why it is so low now), and with time, hopefully there would be an increase in tops sold, therefore you could gain a better deal with Nike.

Then there is also the fact that Celtic is a club which is storied and has plenty of history - there is a 'pull' factor, similar to the likes of Liverpool, Arsenal and Man United.

Relegation :56::56: We would not be relegated.

By playing in a very poor league, or at least a league which failed to develop itself and properly advertise and explore new avenues, we are missing out on a lot of revenue. Celtic could easily make an extra £75m in revenue down South.

Gary Calder: Ex-Weymouth CEO given eight-year ban from football

Former Weymouth chief executive Gary Calder has been suspended from football for eight years after being found guilty of multiple breaches of the Football Association's betting rules.
Calder, who denied the charges, was guilty of providing information not publically available, for, or in relation to betting on the game against Rushden & Diamonds on 21 February 2009.
He was also found guilty of further breaches of FA rules on betting.
    Calder was also fined £2,500.

I think you're severely over-rating the level of competition we would face in the EPL. I don't believe for a second that we would be relegated with the current squad.

The only fair barometer for comparing how good a team really is in cross border sense is through European competition. Right now the best EPL teams are struggling at the top level, and the teams at the bottom of the BPL are miles away from that level.

I don't know how people can watch some of the lower teams in England play and not see a sizeable difference between their ability and the ability of our team. There are some rank rotten teams in that league despite what Sky TV might tell you.

Tbh it doesn't matter how we compare player for player at any stage. A football team should be more than the sum of it's parts. There are a few BPL clubs who seem to have perfected the art of taking quality players and combining them into woefully inadequate teams.
