PETER SHILTON has warned Fraser Forster he must quit Celtic if he has long-term England ambitions.
The Three Lions goalkeeping legend claims the Hoops No.1 isn’t being tested enough in the Premiership.
Shilton’s comments come just two weeks after the giant shot-stopper broke a 92-year-old Celtic record with his 11th clean sheet on the spin.
But England’s most-capped player reckons Forster gets it easy north of the border and spends most weeks idle between the sticks for Celtic.
Parkhead boss Neil Lennon has already confessed the 25-year-old is likely to move on in the summer, although there were no bids for the keeper in January.
Forster made his England debut in a 2-0 friendly defeat by Chile at Wembley last November – his only cap from 11 times he’s been included in Roy Hodgson’s squad.
The Celtic man is desperate to be part of the World Cup squad for Brazil and faces a fight with Ben Foster and John Ruddy to be named behind first pick Joe Hart.
Despite some standout Hoops performances in Europe, playing in the Scottish Premiership is holding Forster back, according to Shilton.
He said: “As a goalkeeper you always need to be tested and he isn’t being tested at Celtic now that they are out of the Champions League.
“I don’t want to knock Scottish football but if Forster was playing for a Premier League club week in week out and getting tested he’d be in a better position than just standing between the sticks for Celtic and having very little to do.”
The England boss is expected to name his provisional 30-man World Cup squad on May 13 before heading to a training camp in Portugal in the week between the FA Cup Final on May 17 and Champions League Final a week later.
And Shilton – with 125 caps for England – hopes Forster will get a chance to impress in the four friendlies that remain.
He said: “Forster may get another half in the next couple of games as Roy will probably experiment.
“Anything could happen at a World Cup and your No.3 could get a chance. It doesn’t have to be injury – it could be an illness.”

Ignorant fuckpig.........maybe if he actually looked at some of the games/highlights that Forster has then he'd know fine * well he is being tested.

If this is the attitude coming from England (and I dare say as he is so respected down there, many at the top will share this), Forster will definitely be for the off during the summer when he is omitted from the squad for the World Cup.

What if Forster was to go down South and make as many blunders as Hart has done, and cost as many points as Hart has. Is all forgiven as he is playing in the EPL? It wouldn't matter what Forster does in my opinion, Hart will always be seen as number 1.

I wish we would stop signing anyone English, get so fed up and bored of hearing * like this. Honestly * em, who cares, get rid of Forster and just don't sign anybody English in the future. For a league so irrelevant in their lives they don't half have a lot of opinions on it.

Forster has to make the squad, most consistent English keeper out there. Mind you I would love to see Hart start and * up. The egg would 'well and wooly be on woy hodgson's face'

I'm not a fan of Shilton, but I'm willing to bet that if Forster leaves Celtic this summer and moves to a mid-table Premiership side, and continues the form he's been in for us?

He'd be England's number 1 by the end of the season.

Personally disagree with Daibhi. I'm sure that Joe Hart must have photos of most of the FA fisting livestock the way they fawn over him, so Forster is * either way.

It's whether he wants to stay here to win titles and participate in the CL as opposed to potential mid-table mediocrity that is the issue for me.

Come on now, it's not quite as clear cut as that, is it? I don't think anyone who is given the option of moving to Celtic or to someone like Swansea, Hull, Southampton or Villa would view it as an option between league title glory & Champions League versus mid-table mediocrity.

Maybe they'd see it as winning league titles that mean nothing as it's a mediocre nation? Maybe they'd look at the idea of playing in one of the best leagues in the world every week as a positive? Not to mention they'd probably be getting more money, and if they played well they could earn a better move and even more cash?

We have 17 internationals in our team, including an African Cup of Nations winner, yet our players aren't good enough for the english national team. What the * have the english achieved lately?

Honestly can't stand those arrogant * * man.

For me it is kind of clear cut, because a move to any of THOSE Clubs would mean exactly one thing (at best as well,) - mid-table mediocrity.

Swansea 9 / 11
Hull 0 / 0
Southampton 14 / 0
Villa 15 / 16

That's where those teams have ended up in the last 2 seasons.... "0" reflecting when they were not even in the EPL.

The main reason for moving is finance IMO amigo - that's fine. I have no problem with that. I do have an issue with trying to disguise the desire for an incremented wage behind supposedly testing oneself at a higher level - when actually resigning yourself to the occasional pop at the league cup with an unlikely - but possible - Europa league match once in a blue moon. But for the most part aspiring for a top 10 finish in a domestic league.

It's a monetary decision - not a decision linked to challening oneself in the highest theatre of all (CL) or for bringing glory to a Club in terms of regular trophy wins.

As opposed to playing in Scotland where the entire set-up is mediocre? I hate to say it, but very few people rate our game all that highly, so winning titles in Scotland is nothing to write home about, especially if you're a Celtic player in this day & age.

But moving to the English Premiership is a sign of wanting to test yourself at a higher level. Aside from a few Champions League games any player of real quality is not going to be tested playing for Celtic.

You're playing against more competitive sides at a higher level most weeks in England, whilst the exact opposite is true in Scotland.

Certainly couldn’t blame him for moving, as I couldn’t any player, and that’s for both monetary and footballing reasons. Like it or not we play in a footballing backwater, we have the prospect of CL group games but that’s six games. I remember the outrage/anger from some of our support when Stan Petrov, a man who had served us well, had the audacity to want away from us - how dare he, eh? In instances when players like this want away, it has to be realised that this isn’t a slight on us as a club.

I couldn’t care less about the English National side but sadly for our players with a sight on them, it’s been shown that their chances of being given a proper chance are limited if they are playing their football in Scotland. That’s just the way things are.
