Even then it's not just about the striker. It's about those around him.

We could probably bring in a good level striker and chances are he'd not do a whole lot of good for us in Europe because the quality isn't there behind him to feed him when it matters against better sides on the continent.

That obviously doesn't mean we should be content with what we have currently but the whole squad needs to be looked at as a whole and the quality of player we have in it.

Unless you have a guy the level of Larsson who can literally win games on his own we are going to struggle to ever really find this fabled "Champions League striker" that gets talked about every summer:56:

    He needs support not slated.

Get him a partner or someone to push him on and he'll get even better. He's carried us by himself in large chunks of the Season.

Really think Leigh will benefit from having a supporting striker next season. The new manager to come in will surely - at the very least domestically - go with 2 up top.

I liked him a lot in the last 6 months of Lennon's reign. He offered a lot more in that system.

Under Ronny, despite the impressive goal record, he has struggled in many games as the lone striker.

I don't rate him truth be told. He's greedy, his all round play is very poor and he isn't even that clinical. He misses a lot of one-on-ones and other clean chances. All he cares about is his goal record, his teamplay is non-existant at times.

That said, I'm happy for him to prove me wrong under a new manager and with a new system.

I think he offers very little, but people are blinded by the goals. Not going to argue with you though. I know you like to undermine peoples opinions with BOLD CAPS and SMILEY SPAM :bbpd::bbpd::bbpd::bbpd:

So I'll leave you to it

    'Blinded by the goals'? :smiley-laughing002:

What else is the striker realistically supposed to do, especially a LONE striker?

Alright, maybe my word choice wasn't great.

I was just echoing what some others were saying. That Griffiths is very limited. I think the Kris Boyd comparison is a good one. He does the job for us at SPL level no doubt, but I have my doubts that he can step up.

But maybe with a new manager and system he can do just that and I'll gladly eat my words.

He is also supposed to hold the ball and pass to non-existent support ! drop back to midfield and drive forward to support.. eh... himself, drop back and and help the defence. Cover the back post at corners.

Prepare the room and provide stationery for training sessions etc

    * me ! its not that hard

I think if he'd been able to be subbed off in matches, was rested in some and wasn't instead absolutely shattered at this stage he'd be even better.

Contrary to the popular belief however, I think he loves the single striker role as he seems to rise to the challenge of being replaced - that's why he raised up and forced first Stokes and then Ciftci outta contention, and admittedly then easily held off all other 'contenders'. When attention is split from the supply or there's another body there I've noticed he/they seem to run into, or kinda block off each other going for the same ball/space.

I also think it's jointly a credit and condemnation that he gets so many shots away, but doesn't score that high a percentage. If another striker took half his chances I'm not sure he'd even get half as many goals, as i think that he succeeds by stubborn effort more than clinical capability.

'People are blinded by the goals!'. Well thank you Stevie Wonder for making me laugh out loud (LOL) this morning.

It was very telling during the hun game how poor our build up play and support for the striker really was.
They got the ball and for the most part worked it forward....when our defence got the ball and had any pressure put on them it went sideways a few times..then had to lump it forward or it went back to keeper who then lumped it forward.
And half the time it got lumped it never found griff and went to a hun player or it got to griff who had 3 defenders around him and lost it and killed the so called attack.

We as a team are * miles away from being able to play the 1 striker game....thank * griff shoots like a mad man and gets 40 ish a season.

The sooner we go 4-4-2 under a new manager in the slflpflpslpflplsplflp the better.

Apparently was going bonkers in the tunnel at half time at Ronny to get him some support. Keep seeing that mentioned.

That villainous Ronny, if only he had listened to Wee Griff! Make Griff the manager!

Everybody could see that we needed to change tactically, but I'm not buying the narrative that Ronny stood cluelessly by as Griffiths "was going bonkers asking for support". In fact, there was a couple of 30 yard shots where he did indeed have support but instead blasted the ball over the bar.

How does 442 suit a team with an abundance of attacking midfielders?

Exactly, folk are clamouring for a return to the 442 when we don't have the players to play it unless we play a diamond and facilitate 1 guy in the AM position out of about 12 :smiley-laughing002:

Hopefully we can see someone come in to play football properly first and foremost no matter the formation.
