    Hi, mates.
If any of you, guys, are going to Moscow, here's a couple of tips. I hear the tickets are to be collected in person from the British embassy on the Moskva river embankment. You may want to know that a fine watering place is right across the road. Call Tinkoff, it's a hi-tech looking brewery / pub which offers the likes of "smoked lager" and (its signature dish) "meter-long sausage". The nearest tube station is Smolenskaya. You'll find a John Bull chain pub a stone's throw away from there. Lots of places to down a pint or two in the Arbat pedestrian precinct just round the corner. Enjoy!
It will be a ten minute ride from there to the stadium (could take longer in the rush hour). I'd say 150-200 rubles (three pounds) for a gypsy cab. Just say: "Luzhniki".
I don't expect any problems with organized local hools. Heard a hilarious radio sports show the other day, in which the leader of a Spartak "firm" (posing as an affcionado of a new sport, "rugby-14") described some latest developments on that front and was asked by a phone-in listener if any "friendly" was planned with the visiting Celts. He said nyet - explaining that you guys aren't interested in the least and anyway have no "rugby-14" team worth mentioning.
What else? The weather's just fine. Sunny, cloudless, above 30 degrees Centigrade.
    Cheers

I reckon it will be a 4-5-1 alright.Miller up front on his own cos i think Jan is wasted up there by himself and Miller's pace on that surface could do some damage...I'd also consider playing Jarosik for his experience.
Defend deep tho and i think in many ways the surface could help players like Brown,McGeady and Miller..
We are 3/1 in the bookies to win this crazy odds..a few notes on a Hoops win i think

Moscow ae a decent side but are not world beaters . We are capable of getting a result but whether we do i am not sure . It is very close to call this game and anything can happen

I'd probably go with 2 up front
Like you say we may defend deep and usually when teams play with 1 up that is what happens . Just look at Reading yesterday , Kevin Doyle was up himself and barely got a kick . 2 up top occupies their 2 centre backs which is apparently their weakness :50:

just a bit of info on spartak that i built up, just to see what exactly we will be playing... a bit more than just there key players and there league pos.

Spartak 5 last games - against KRILYA SOVETOV
they won 2-0 away. Pavlyuchenko and bazhenov scoring. Pavlyuchenko's goal coming with in the first min. krilya soventov currently sitting on 12th with 23 points.15 behind spartak
against "TOM" they won 3-2 coming from behind to win
the game was at home. tom are currently second bottom on 21 points with 20 games gone and 18 points behind spartak. The scorers for Spartak were Dmitry Torbinsky, Roman Pavlyuchenko and Denis Boyarintsev.
    against KRILYA SOVETOV
they won 2-0 away. Pavlyuchenko and bazhenov scoring. Pavlyuchenko's goal coming with in the first min. krilya soventov currently sitting on 12th with 23 points.
before sovetov they played luch energiya game ended 1-1 coming again from behind for the point. prudnikov got spartaks goal. spartak also had a man sent off around the 1 hr park i think. after both goals had been scored.
before that they beat zenit 3-1 who are currently second in the league at home. Roman Pavlyuchenko getting two goals, 1 from the spot and bazhenov getting the 3rd. zenit had there keeper red carded during the game. possiable around the time of the penalty?
    amkar
    - spartak 1-0 away win. amkar 7th in the league on 27points titov getting the goal.
rostov - 1-3 to spartak. radoslav, torbinskiy, bazhenov scoring the goals for spartak.

    Spartak had the following to say on being paired with celtic on the 3rd of this month;
    Stanislav Cherchesov:
Celtic is a strong rival that will have overcrowded house at home. This is a rather qualified team and its play improves every year. However, I cannot say much at the moment as we do not have sufficient information about Celtic. Besides, it is not really our tradition to put the card before the horse and make any forecasts".

    Sergey Shavlo:
”It has been the first time that Spartak will play with a Scottish club. And I like this draw. Celtic is an interesting team that stakes on attack. It has good players and we have interesting games ahead. The chances are 50-50".

spartak are fav's to win the game with celtic being given 3-1 odds. which on the plus side, is lower than the odds we got given away to man utd.

looks like its going to be a tough tough game. strachan has came out and said he wilbe playing attacking football which to me means jvoh and miller upfront.

SPARTAK IN THE CHAMPIONS LEAGUE -
last season- pumped 4-0 from bayern munich in germany.
drew with lisbon 1-1 in russia although they had the lead with in 5mins they lost it to a nani goal justbefor the hour.
beat 2-1 in milan against inter two early goals for inter with in the first 10min killed the game, spartak getting a goal thorugh, yes, again, Pavlyuchenko just before the hour.
home to bayern game finished 2-2 with maksim and radoslav getting the goals spartak took the lead early on but bayern hit twice before radoslav getting the equizer
beat sporting 1-3 in lisbon early goal from Pavlyuchenko got them off to a good start.
qualifing the beat slovan 2-1 at home then drew 0-0 away.
2nd round they drew 0-0 at home and drew 1-1 with sheriff moldova to get to the champions leauge

I agree with the people who say we should play a 4-5-1 formation. Reason being that we need to dominate from the MF, thus controlling the pace of the game. I fear if we play just the 4 in MF then we will get over-run in that area and loose a few goals as our back 4 doesn't look the most solid right now. JFK will never be 100% recovered from his knee damage due to the nature of the injury but I think he'll be able to play on the surface in Moscow. If I was WGS I'd tell the attacking players to try and make the opposition foul them so Naka can use his left peg again! :50:

Brown will be key in this game, as will the teams fitness as a whole. Just hope that the players are up for it and that GS employs the correct tactics.

We need to look for an away goal yet be tight at the back .
It's not as if were going to play Real Madrid let's be brave and get an away goal . We never got one in Bratislava and it cost us

I would be amazed if Stachan plays 4-4-2 tbh..can see Caldwell or Hartley being the extra midfielder

I dont think this is a game that will suit Naka, i can see it being hostile and physical and he is more of a luxury player.

He imo wont be able to get stuck in but yet again having him on the park means he could score a goal and turn the game in a matter of seconds even if thats all he does

Naka has to play . If we get a free kick near the box he can grab us that crucial away goal which imo is vital

our two cm's really need to get running at defence.
and naka should play on the left , mcgeady on the right. and heres my reason: naka although can hit free kicks never seems to GET free kicks. mcgeady has quick feet and can win fouls, on the right is were naka is better off taking free kicks. brown and donati really need to run to the right handside of the middle aswell.

champs: i dono if you've noticed but naka has come ALONG way from being scared in the thick of things. he can take kicks and hard tackles alot better than he could when he arrived. hes also less shy of going in for a tackle

because winning free kicks at the left is almost useless. so if the both head for the penalty spot we've more chance of getting a goal.

    5-5-1.
You open up, we sew up the deal.
    Don't tell me I didn't warn you.
The conditions, mind you, will be hellllllishhhh, with the humidity, stuffiness and swelter doubled by the synthetic heat-absorbing surface below.
The word "roasted" suddenly comes to mind.

My prediction: FCSM - CFC 3:1
Although pavluchenko broke a finger on his hand during the last game, he'll score at least one, Torby, Kalina and Titov should be able to add to it. Not sure if speedy Bystrov will play.
Hesselink may be the one who score for Cfc.
I ve heard that there are long ticket lines for this game.

You got me. ) Overdone it a bit, maybe.
But the extra man wouldn't be redundant anyways.

A sigh of relief - Naka says the pitch is perfect, no need to hole up and WGS is stubborn you'll go all out forward to win.
    A draw is a no-go.
    Come on, daredevil bhoys!
Loosen up your defences some more.
