It was completely unacceptable to lose the league in 2005 to this squad

    http://www.worldfootball.net/teams/rangers-fc/2005/2/

    And 2003 to this one

    http://www.worldfootball.net/teams/rangers-fc/2003/2/

A handful of good players in 2003. But losing to that 2005 squad is embarrassing.

I like MON and like I said I have a lot of fond memories of his time at Celtic. But he is not above criticism. And regardless of points total, Strachan qualified twice for the last 16.

And I would never suggest something like him using his sick wife as an excuse.

Round of applause to all the numpties who got mad at me and don't know what "underrated" means.
Let me break it down for you.

Stein is rated as a great because he was the greatest.
Barnes is rated as * because he was *.
O'Neil is rated great but for me he was only very good. Not to demean very good, but for me as I said he's given more credit than he should be and is let off for a few things which other managers have been slated for. For example Lenny gets battered pretty much every game for not rotating and just playing his "favourites" - well who do you think he learned that from?

Lenny has, relatively speaking, done at least as good a job as MON.

Eh - naw. More than a 'handful' and certainly no shame in losing the league title to this team, by like 1 goal.

Klos; Numan; D Boer; Nerlinger; Konterman; Arverladze; Ball; Caniggia; Mols; Lovendkrands and Moore, where all cracking players and more than enough to challenge our squad, which had the Uefa cup to compete with aswell.

    The three in bold, yes.

Cannigia was past it. Lovendkrants threat was gone once we signed Agathe. Moore was pish. Ball was pish at rangers. Konterman, even the huns call him Berty Bombscare.

Not a chance that squad should have been anywhere near challenging Bobo, Varga, McNamara, Joos, Johan, Petrov, Agathe, Lambert, Maloney, Thomson, Petta, Hartson, Larsson and Sutton.

What has you calling O'Neill the most overrated manager in Celtic's history got to do with Lennon doing just as good a job, please just admit you made a * of saying that yes O'Neill made mistakes but he took a side in disarray and totally turned it round, that side made Parkhead a fortress in Europe again he was a major driving force in that all you have to do is listen to any player that played under him

Nonsense - both players ripped us apart on several occasions. Moore was dependable for them and aye, Konterman was * for the most part but the * hit an absolute rocket to knock us out of the cup final.

For a team which supposedly died and don't mean anything to us Celtic fans anymore , they seem to get talked avout an awful lot on here lol

Martin O'Neill was a fantastic manager. Did he not just replace Trappatoni as ROI manager? He may not be a Great such as Stein but will we ever, in this life time get close to a manager as the likes of Stein?

After Mowbray this forum was basically begging for O'Neill to come back and im pretty sure I could dig out the old comments and put a few on here to shame.....short memories and all thag.

Lovendkrants used to rip us apart. But once we signed Agathe, his threat was just about gone. He scored plenty against us using his speed on the break. I honestly don't think he scored once or even really threatened when Didier could slide in, miss him, get up and catch him.

That squad we had shouldn't have lost a league with guys described as 'dependable'.

I think you're getting your dates mixed up a bit mate, both came to Celtic/Rangers around the same time, and left around the same time. Both were speed merchants, and I seem to remember Lovenkrands playing a blinder in the cup final of 2003, scoring the winner in a 3-2 victor for them *.

He was a thorn in our side for about 4 year from 2000-2004/5.

    So they did lol

It's set in stone in my head and always has been that Peter used to * us with his speed on the break for a season or two then we signed Didier and that was him neutralised.

Winning the treble in your first season at a club is a very impressive achievement. When he was here, with a tremendous group of players, he achieved a lot.

As well as the 3 titles, 3 Scottish Cups and solitary League Cup, we won 7 consecutive games against the now defunct RFC, 25 consecutive league wins in the 03-04 season and nobody can forget the tremendous UEFA Cup run. In his 5 seasons here, he did tremendously well.

Only major dampener on his term for me, as a few have rightly said, was the loss of the 04-05 title. I recall that he told the team either a day or two before the game that he'd be stepping down due to his wife being ill. Who knows if that's a reason why we lost that game, but I'm sure it would have affected morale amongst the squad. That day still hurts to this day.
