Probably try and stop it'll and call the police. Then you'd be a witness and ensure the * goes down.

Not for something like loitering or being d&d, but I think in most cases not reporting a crime is a selfish act.

It's easy to say on the Internet that you would intervene and put a stop to it, but there's a decent chance you could get your * kicked, and the crime could then go ahead as normal. I get the feeling that the intervention option is one that VERY few people chose in reality.

An important factor to consider is deterrence of future crimes, and not just stopping the crime at hand, for which I believe a criminal record would be better served than a quick scrap.

If someone seen a lad getting his head kicked in by 2 or 3 other lads would you report it?

Edit: not so much reporting but the term grassing is usually means giving a statement or giving one on court

Then that. Also if someone's getting a kicking I'd try and stop it.

No one's talking about a scrap necessarily and if you think a slap on the wrist from the police, if it even comes to that, is a deterrent then you're sadly mistaken. If a crime's happening immediate vicinity, I'd say it's more selfish not to try to help someone there and then. Even at the risk of getting your * kicked. I suppose it depends on your age and * though.

Yes. If it was one guy I'd try and stop it but I wouldn't want to get my head kicked in so I'd just call the police.

But would you give a statement and then go up in court and give evidence?

Would I call the police? If it were serious, then yes. I don't think I'd give a statement in court unless the guy was seriously injured or worse though.

This exact thing happened outside my house last Friday four guys were beating the holy * out of one guy, at around 2am. I didn't have any other option but to call the police.

They were out within a few minutes, All four where taken to the cells and the other guy was taken to A&E.

Maybe. It was something I heard a character on Breaking bad say that made me ask.The guy 'Mike' used to be a cop and every week he'd be called to a domestic at the same house, guy beating his wife,he eventually threatened the guy with his pistol and made it clear that if he ever touched the wife again he was a dead man - but a week or two later husband beats her to death.

No doubt stuff like that happens all the time, just got me thinking..what would the best course of action usually be in reality?

Yeah, I've never really thought about it like that. You'd probably have that on your conscience whatever you chose to do though.

I think often the women are probably be too frightened to press charges but I suppose it flags them up to the authorities.

Yes. You can't get away with a 3 or 4 on 1 assault one someone. They'd deserve everything they got.

Trying to intervene in domestic violence would be one of the worst things to do IMO.

There's every chance the women could turn on you, or that it would get worse for her after you left.

I was referring more to the drink driving situation, where people said they would get violent with someone. IMO points on your licence and possible jail time would be a far bigger deterrent than a punch in the face.

I'm not suggesting you don't intervene if you can, but reporting it after would hopefully reduce the chance if the same person committing it again.

Never get involved in a domestic abuse case, unless you know them personally. Phone the police if you suspect something, people stepping in can escalate it, as soon as your out of site it could be so much worse.

My sister was getting beat up by her man, I went round and had a friendly word with him, as you do.

They ended up staying together and she took the huff with me and we haven't spoke for years.

Wish I hadn't * bothered getting involved but it's impossible not to.
