North, as you are the go to guy on religion do you know anything about Xmas history in Scotland. I was reading here that Xmas wasn't even a public holiday in Scotland until 1958. I guess Xmas was bigger in Catholic areas like Benbecula, South Uist and Barra or was it put down?

Prior to the Reformation every Holy Day (Christmas, Easter, Saints Feasts, etc.) would have been treated like any Sunday. No servile work, days of celebration and devotions, etc. The Church would have set these things and not the secular authorities. When the Reformation came, such things were obviously entirely cut short. But the Presbyterians still observed Sundays as days of rest so shops were closed. I can only imagine that since our Calvinists didn't go as loopy as the ones in America, that Christmas would have still maintained its Sunday atmosphere. I can't imagine any shop in Glasgow was open on Christmas Day in 1936!

Holidays being set by public authorities is a relatively recent phenomenon. I am sure that informally, Christmas would have been observed as a holiday.

Why are there such social protocols as buying gifts, when someone is talking ahit just nod your head and agree then call them a * that is talking * after, or talking to someone you don't like?

Another thing, who the * actually makes up these social protocols?!

I don't adhere to these I think they're * stupid especially talking to someone you don't like. I usually just ignore their existence. Is that wrong to do? If so why is it wrong?

Do people really * themselves when they die, was told this years ago and thought it was too insensitive to ask somebody face to face, so an internet forum seems the right place.

    I have a question,

Why the * do you lot want to know so much about each other?

I mean, I understand some threads like "what pets do you have?" or "what's your best footballing memory?"

    But why the * do you lot want to know;

"What time are you having your Christmas Dinner?"
"what should I get for supper?"
    "Whats your favoutire take out?"
    "Tea-Whats your brew?"

There * hunners more but it just baffles me the amount of absolute * you want to know about each other. It's not like this is even useful information, your just learning that someone you have never met and never will likes 2 sugars in their tea, likes a tikka chasni and eats their dinner at 5:30 on a specific day of the year.

I have come to the conclusion you are all VERY self conscious and seek approval of your life choices by getting assurance on here.

    Merry Christmas :50:

Ahhh great old south park, an educator and entertainer :56:

Thank * I'm not epileptic or can go into shock, so when people say to wear clean underwear everyday as you never know what is going to happen is a bit pointless.

If * created the universe, where did * come from?

Just incase I become friends with someone on the forum and invite them over for tea and takeaway, then I know we can talk about our pets. I need to know what time they are getting their christmas dinner at incase I am calling to their house with a christmas present, and also if I need to buy an additional one for their pet also.
