 The old Parkhead, what can I say about it well it was fcking magic!!! Went up in the train sometimes from Central Station then jumped the bus to Parkhead for nothing after getting my hands on some cheap cider or lambrusco. Went in the turnstiles between the Celtic End and the Jungle and straight to the middle of the Jungle under the gantry where Archie or Arthur would be doing the Sportscene or Scotsport stuff, they got slagged stupid. The crowd used to sway from side to side or up and down the rebs got sung the guys selling macaroon bars and you could have a wee drink, never went down for a pish till the end of the game someone mentioned the troughs aye the biggest toilet in Glesga was below the Jungle hahaha.
Remember the Gang fights in the Celtic End also remember the Jeanfield Street stamped back in about 84 or 85 Police acting the * charged the Celtic fans on horseback when everyone was making their way to the supporter’s buses.
I joined a CSC in about 1982 after heading up in the train for years, the supporters buses back then were mental everything happened and the away games were just as mental as home games in the Jungle. Great days.
The PLC would never get away with all the pish they’re doing now, they would have been chased.

the jungle would have been the perfect place to set off flares -- no danger of anything catching fire as the whole floor was covered in pish.

also polis just stood there and watched the game. don't know what you would have to have done to get arrested then...? seem to remember the odd guy being marched along the touchline but not very often.

Ticket prices & Police are the main culprits for a * atmosphere.
Best memory was when about 40,000 done the Soldiers Song against them and do you know what happened? Nothing. No-one cried (The odd boo from the oldco) they just got on with it. To get lifted you'd probably have to have been caught with a blade or something.

I never went there as often as some of the bhoys on here, but that was when my dad started taking me to watch Celtic. Magical time.
I remember it feeling massive - walking from the front of the terracing to the back to have a pish seemed to take about 20 minutes :smiley-laughing002:
And yes... the rivers did a flow.

Think Sean's quoting the 'official' attendance when he says 35k. I reckon it was more 50k most matches and sell outs v Huns.

One of the very best things about those days was if some * was around you and annoying the * out of you it was possible to just move away without effecting your enjoyment, these days I've sat down and realised after a few minutes I'm stuck with this * for 90 mins and have paid £29 for the privilege.

Things were so much easier, just cash on the turnstile, make your mind up on the day and not folk going there looking to be offended, the atmosphere was not always brilliant but when it was good it was untouchable especially the Euro games, The Rapid one and even the Forest one despite the result stick in my memory.

As for Oldco, the place being packed before 2 and the songs from both sets of fans at full volume all the way up to KO always used to be an incredible thing

That's happened a couple of times with me in the past with my season ticket! Imagine moving seats at the start of the season and realising your sat within earshot of a complete *!

my first ever European game was this one ,I was 11 year old at the time could not believe the noise after.

My mam did not want us going near parkhead as she thought we were too young Me,my brother and some mates ,sneaked scarfs out the house then down on parkhead then she knew she could not keep us a way.

So she pleaded that if we were going ,not to go in the jungle still remember a hibs game we were in the Celtic end and it was empty

The atmosphere was pure bedlam,the place honkin' of pish, chips,booze & vomit, there wiz plenty foul language and it never failed to make you feel like you were part of one big extended family.
I think without a doubt that an all seater stadium rips the heart & soul oot the place, you just need tae look at the old Hampden/new Hampden scenario fur a comparisson.
Over the top Health & Safety and modern day corporate governance of clubs have sunk any chance of my memories of the real Paradise ever being ressurected although there's talk of plans for a standing section i'm afraid the policing of this area would no doubt restrict our freedom of expression.

Every noo and then you catch a glimpse of what we're all aboot and if you just look hard enough you just see the shadows of years gone by -

To be honest, I started going early 90's and can remember a lot of ganes when the atmosphere was pretty flat then as well, although admittedly the team were pretty pish.

When it was all in full flow in the jungle or between areas 4 and 5 up the back of the Celtic end it was pretty special.

For me, most special memory was beating Cologne 3-0 after losing the first game 2-0, think it was 1992. I was 13 or 14 and had never quite experienced anything like that.

Wooooft aye mate,the 90's some rite mingin' times were had by all...my earlier post was really about my early memories..they are my best, i suppose your enjoyment at that age is tenfold..the lights,the crowd and the players(your super heroes) are just one big bundle of excitement and your carried away on the sea of green & white
Before i was old enough I was taken along to games in the mid 70's early 80's by ma Da and his mates or sometimes my uncles..those days were priceless as are my memories.
