    In his statement regarding the banner displayed by the green Brigade at the AC Milan game midweek, Celtic Chief Executive Peter Lawwell said;

So, the question I ask is, is he correct? Are the politically-minded element within our support in the minority?

Has the club changed? And is it for the better? Does Peter Lawwell speak for you?

i would be willing to put this to a vote of our supporters ... on one condition.

the club must also abide by the wishes of the majority. If the fans want to make social comments on banners etc then the club would have to support them. No point in having a vote if the club wont abide by the result. PL does not speak for anyone but himself

First and foremost Peter or any board member does not speak for me. This PR statement does not represent me either.

Lets not have the ignorance to selectively passively ignore what happened in 1887 and other landmarks of our club. Brother Walfrid, John Glass and other founding fathers in the Calton, St Mary's Church sang together '* Save Ireland' in creation of our club and Michael Davitt a member of the Irish Republican Brotherhood laying the turf onto our Park.

That symbolism of celebrating Irishness is today being questioned and criminalised by political and football authorities because of their platform powers to enforce this corporatism of being behaved consumers of a marketable footballing product through the succession of sponsored and state media, European and domestic competition for financial gains.

Reading what the Celtic board stated, they have now claimed they speak for the majority of the support and don't want our celebrated traditions any more and it must stop completely, its clear than ever that the statement that the board are playing for the authorities.

The board is completely out of touch from us, they are police enforcers, backing the football bill which takes away civil rights and sides disproportionate police tactics against our support. This is absolutely * disgusting and completely unacceptable.

This Celtic is not the Celtic I know. Reading on here siding the board down to a T and coming out with stupid, ignorant, contradictory, hypocritical of our Irish heritage worries me for the future of our club.

The thing is, the club doesn't necessarily have to support the comments made on the banners. *, I wouldn't even be that upset if they called for the supporters in question to pay the fine (although with the money we bring in they should have no issue paying it).

What bothers me is that the club actively stand against sections of our support. That's the killer for me.

We are a non-political organisation. However our fans have the right to hold and express their political views. I would rather they done this in a way that did not bring trouble to the clubs doorstep. If that means no banners at Celtic Park then it seems a small sacrifice.

So, you believe our fans have the right to express their political views, but that they shouldn't do so as it will bring trouble from the powers that be? :97:

It will be interesting to see how this poll goes after a poster on the GB thread claimed the majority of Celtic fans are against the banner. I suspect that this forum has a younger profile and if anything would over represent the non republican Celtic "support".

He doesn't speak for me but then nor does the Green Brigade. I have never even considered connecting my opinion regarding social, political, or economic issues, to my favourite football team. That isn't to say I don't understand the history of the club. I just don't think it applies to my life today.

The whole political question really is a million dollar question. I can say hand on heart that of every single Celtic fan I know - which is only maybe 15-20 through work, family, and friends, there isn't a single one that buys into "Celtic politics". I know a few Irish republicans who are actually Irish, but none of them support Celtic; they either support EPL teams or rugby. So all in all, in real life as opposed to online, I do not know a single person who would consider themselves a republican (in the Irish sense) and who supports Celtic.

The disclaimer is, firstly I live in the east coast so I don't think the political stuff is as prevalent here. And secondly, of course when I go to Celtic Park you pass enough pubs to realise that there is still a connection for a lot of people. It is just I don't know anyone who buys into that stuff.

I am very much of the opinion that it isn't appropriate for Celtic, but I wouldn't ever demand that people were banned either. I could just do without it.

I never said that. It is the banners that have to go. It is the banners that have got us into trouble. We can still express our views through song.

They are not going to silence us :smiley-laughing002:

You don't think the club would have reacted in the same way if it were Republican songs being sung instead of a banner?

The truth is, they want absolutely no political overtones at all. They want a sanitised, well-behaved support who are happy to hand over their cash and not cause any fuss.

Who the * does he think he is putting words in the mouths of fans? He doesn't speak for us and he's acting like he's conducted a poll or something , bullshit.

This is a move by the board that is just to attract less controversy and to suit the money men who sadly run this club.
