I don't think we missed Brown really as what we need is quality in the final 3rd which Broony never has nor will provided.
It is shocking how lost we look without him though, Sammy is an incredibly poor substitute of a captain, he hardly talks. Broony is the only one the whole squad looks up to, listens to, and respects.

A think we missed him a lot imo. He would've gave us an option to retain possession in the middle of the park and his movment around the back four would have given us the chance to play more football rather than going back to foster and lumping it forward. Plus his ability to take the sting out a game was missed as was his ability to break up play and force the back 4 up the pitch a bit.

He does do all those things, but it's not what we're missing. He could tackle successfully, get the ball successfully, harass everybody successfully, but it still wouldn't change how uncreative a side we are. In desperate need of attacking flair going forward.

He is our captain and our best central midfield player, of course we would have done better. Mulgrew was so so poor last night, giving the ball away on countless occasions.

I believe if brown was available we would have went with a central 3. Meaning more control of the ball and possibly a change in the outcome.

When Broony plays, everyone plays better. He is the driving force behind the team, which is the reason he manages to keep the captaincy despite his disciplinary problems.

Doubt it. Nothing Broony could have done to stop Lenny being a * up last night

People are also discounting the overall effect that Brown has as captain on the team.

The OTHER players tend to play better when he is on the pitch. His leadership is immense and can't be ignored

Brown and Kayal in the same team is fine if we're playing defensively and we're going for a draw. But against a team like Ajax, we need to be more attacking. I think it's one or the other in those sort of games.

Kayal is more than capable of going forward,as is Brown.

It would work well in an attacking or defending set-up i think.

Would love to see a return to that midfield three of Broony - Kayal - Ledley again. We produced our best football with that and it lets the full backs to get forward a lot more

I think so. Mulgrew was anonymous.

Definitely, we need Broony during the champions league, I wish he hadn't have been so stupid getting that red card. Plus if Broony played that would have shifted Kayal to the bench, which would have had an all round positive effect on the performance. * useless he was.

I can't believe people still have Kayal in their team, the guy is not up to it, he is limited (he runs around like a headless chicken dong sweet fa) and I wouldn't mind seeing the back of him. It is amazing to me that he still gets love from the fans, he has been horrendous for a long long period of time now, he hasn't shown anything for me to think that that's going to change. Seriously, * * he is.

a bit of a rant there, but fucksake, it needed to be said.

Yeah no argument from me on that score, although Brown is our best central midfielder, he's not creative or a goalscorer.

He would definitely of made a difference. Samaras, forrest(in the first half) commons all certainly wouldn't of been allowed to just stroll around looking like they couldn't give a *.

    Brown is the captain.
when he plays there is a marked difference in attitude from the other players.
he seems to give them more confidence.
or maybe he just gives them a kick in the *.
either way it seems to work.

I love Broony. Winding up Kovacevic was a highlight!

He brings out the best in our other players. Samaras is silent on the pitch, awful captain. Mulgrew isn't really a vocal guy either, but Broony will tell you if you * up and get on you to do better. Cracking captain.

He woulld've made difference. I very much doubt it would have affected the outcome though. We could barely string 2 passes together.
