I hope our support don't change though because the only reason we're talking about this is that it is a rarity. If Celtic fans went everywhere looking for violence, like say the huns or chelsea or ajax, then guess what - we would see a lot more violence.

It's good the way it is. 90% of places we go we get respected and treated well, by fans, police and locals, and every now and again there is trouble. I would rather that, and having a few naive fans, than going everywhere fully clobbered up and prepared to scrap. After the age of 16 that * is just * dumb.

Ajax have been fined £21,000 for improper conduct of supporters and displaying an offensive banner.

Is that for what happened at both games or just the game in Amsterdam?

@stvmike: The Dutch lawyer for Celtic fans in custody in Amsterdam has described the police there as hooligans & called for the fans to be released.

    http://news.stv.tv/west-central/248...mullen-should-be-freed-says-christian-visser/

The lawyer representing Celtic fans arrested in Amsterdam last week says they should be freed immediately.

Christian Visser says the police handling of the situation, before the Champions League clash with Ajax, was a disgrace and that Dutch officers were the hooligans — not fans.

Dozens of supporters were taken into custody after fighting with undercover police officers.

The incident happened in Amsterdam's Dam Square on Wednesday, ahead of kick-off.

Six Celtic fans will go on trial in Amsterdam at the end of the month accused of violence towards police.

Two fans were remanded in custody at a bail hearing at Amsterdam District Court on Friday, while four others who had been held on remand were released pending the hearing.

On Tuesday, the lawyer for two arrested Celtic fans, Andy Vance and Padraig Mullen, spoke of their shock and anger.

Asked how the two men were coping, he said: "Well, they're feeling very scared because they're in a jail in another country and they've never been in jail before, obviously.

"They haven't ever been arrested by the police, so they feel very bad about that but also they have bodily harm.

"Andrew has broken teeth, his lips are sore. He's in a pretty bad state.

"Padriag is a bit better, he's healing but obviously he had a bad beating as well by the police

He explained his clients defence, saying: "The police thinks that Andrew threw a can at a police officer. He denies that. He says 'I would never do that, I didn't do that' on Wednesday.

"Padriag is a bit of a different story, like many Celtic fans, he tells us 'I was being attacked by people who I thought were hooligans'. Well, these people were hooligans — but from the Amsterdam police.

"And then he said: 'Somebody hit my girlfriend and then attacked another Celtic fan. I wanted to help this Celtic fan and try to get him off the Celtic fan and then I was, like, beaten up by the police.'"

Asked if he had seen the Dam Square footage, Mr Visser replied: "I am angry about the footage because I've seen that the police wrote down that he resisted heavily — Padriag. Well, this is not at all the case. We can all see that very clearly.

"What we can see is that he's been beaten up by the police very badly and I think that this is a disgrace.

"I think the prosecutor should think of freedom now — before the trial. It's very uncommon to do that but they should do that now because if they see the footage they must be shocked as well."

The Celtic Trust is collating footage and evidence with a view to bringing its own legal challenge.

On Tuesday, the Dutch police and prosecutors refused to comment before all the evidence had been reviewed.

The accused fans are expected to appear in a Dutch court on November 21.

Knowing the law in this country, the cops probably get away with it. Hope that lawyer is any good and slays the * though.

I get more * every time I see more pics. Ffs man, I was just walking back into the square when things kicked off. This could have been me or any other Celtic fan just having fun at the Dam.

Over recent seasons we've had a few games where there have been skirmishes with opposition fans and/or police such as A.Madrid. Donetsk are first up front about wanting a fair square go, then just take pot shots at any vulnerable Celtic fan they can see. Helsingborgs were just cowards plain and simple.

We have been fortunate in terms of opposition fans - we've always avoided going to Turkey, Greece, Poland and Belgrade. We always get the * draws! * me, Belgrade would be something else. We'd only take about 500 at most if it was a qualifier but they would be aware of Croats being at our games and BBB in the past so would be a bit of a rough one. Sure they'd be some banning order put in place for the Croats at that one.

Also have to bear in mind that for many we are seen as being 'catholic brothers' and so would come to no harm because of that. Case in point in 2003 in Budapest with Ferencvaros fans. Although right enough, now we are more identifiable as being anti-fascist thanks primarily to the Green Brigade and so the waters may be more muddied.
