Summer Sales (lack of)

Is anyone else getting a little concerned by the lack of exiting players (thats exiting not exciting btw!) at Parkhead.

I think WGS has been told that he can't bring anyone else in until he has cleared some of the deadwood ie Balde, Graveson, Jiri, Miller etc

We seem to extremely over endowed through the middle of the team and not have much out at the sides. We have 6 strikers, 6 cmfers and 6 cbs. We could do with losing probably one from each position at least.

But what puzzles me is why a player like Balde doesn't want to move to Sunderland, an EPL team on probably equal money, when WGS has made it clear that his 4th choice at best at Parkhead? The same with Graveson and Derby etc.

Are they on too cushy a number up here not have to play to justify their million pound salaries or what?

Does anybody else think that there will hopefully be a late flurry before deadline day and we will hopefully recoup about 5m and get a few of these guys off the wagebill?

 

Yip we need to start selling unwanted players like Balde, Jarosik, Gravesen, Zurawski.

 

They want an easy paycheck. Thats why Balde and Gravesen want to stay.

 

After the Toon game on thurs we will see if wgs has any more signings left in him as rarely do mangers sign players when they are aborad ~(usa)

 

Yeah totally agree with you there m8, if we got rid of Balde, Jarosik, Gravesen, thats a whole lot of money saving, we would even be able to afford a quality player or two.

 

why would you rather play fopr celtic than derby or sunderland?

Aye, but i meant if you were clearly not in the manager's plans, and he was accepting any bid for you.

I'd rather play in the EPL week in week out rather than play on the reserves for Celtic, especially as the u21 rule means that there is less chance of any of them getting on the bench and getting a chance to prove themselves.

 

GS better have some surprises up his sleeve . I noticed Moritz Volz wasnt in the Fulham team today . Him as cover for RB and RM would be good . Adu for the left and a gud CB and CF and im happy as Larry

 

I agree with you 100% mate....i would pay to get rid of these jokers...for starters stop giving out pension funds to Pressley....also Hartley wastes so many passes and set pieces...but good thing Celtic brought in two new and better central midfielder. Therefore althouh they are still in the team Graveson, Hartley and Jarosik will not be first choice.

 

We'll b stuck with Grav, Jiri and Bobo unil thiercontracts expire, they like getting money for nothing

So much neagativity on this thread.
Firstly I would say to my mind it is refreshing to hear players like Gravesen and Balde say that they want to stay and fight for their place rather then get in a huff and sulk in the corner. In this day and age it seems those types of attitudes are few and far between.
Secondly as another poster pointed out none of the clubs that have made approaches for these players can even remotely come close to the level Celtic is at when you take what Celtic is as a club not just that we play spl as against epl or whatever. Not to mention having the chance to play Champions League football.
Thirdly if Celtic is to be successful on multiple fronts both in Europe and at home we need a big squad and over the long haul of a season we need to have players well beyond just 11 starters who can come in and play a role.
I don't see us so over flowing with midfielders that we should be rushing Gravesen, Jarosik and Hartley out the door unless we already have replacements lined up.
Balde at the back may be different as we are well stocked with center backs.
But when it comes to players we are chasing while obviously we have some money, for the level we are trying to compete in ie Champions League group stages and beyond we have very little money compared to others and Strachan may not be able to find the players he wants that he feels are really better then those we already have thus he hasn't sold many players.

 

We have a lot of good young midfielders in our reserves who are really good potential players. Bjarnson, McGlinchey, Rocco Quinn, Lawson...are just a few name...If depth is the problem I rather get rid of players like Gravesen who plays with no heart and has a massive wage and let younger players who will give their all a chance. As for our defenders and strikers...getting rid of Miller and Pressley would not be missed since we already have so many centre backs and striekrs at the club

 

The way some people spoke of Hartley when he was at Hearts was crazy. Some pundits and journalists were speaking as if he was this amazing player but in reality he just stood out in a average side. His ball distribution is shocking, always giving it away. Not good enough.

 

With players like Pressley, McDonald, Miller, Killen and Hartley we don't need any new signings.




















Seriously, as usual, I think we will get the cracking players right before the deadline.

 

can only really sell players if someone wants to buy them... and then they want to go.
