It annoys me aswell, fair enough if they're under a certain age, but if they're 11/12 and not interested then why take them? If they're not interested in then they're probably never going to be. Few people near me about that age that just spend their whole time on a phone playing games/on facebook (this is also weird, why do 11 year olds have Iphones and facebook!?)

That's a bit ignorant. It costs me £150 to go to a league game for the day trip. Double that if I'm going over for the weekend. I go over when I can afford it.

I'm lucky enough to have mates in Glasgow to sort me out with a ticket for a European games but I know plenty of people who aren't as lucky.

Not to mention people in Scotland who can't afford a ST either.

Is it fair that these supporters, who are just as dedicated as anyone, miss out at the expense of a kid with no interest who isn't even going to watch the game?

Nobody here knows the circumstances behind the kid being taken to the game. Possibly a single parent who is obviously a fan who rather than leave their son alone at home decided it would be better and far safer to take him along.

No matter what the reason was ridiculing their decision by saying others desperate for a ticket were denied is in my opinion ridiculous. There were plenty of opportunities available to buy up extra released tickets. There were even a few offered here on TC. Outside the ground there were plenty of spares on offer also.

Agreed.

Took my youngest boy to his first match (Karagandy) and for the most part he sat there with my phone playing games- he's 7 btw. When he came away the first thing he asked was when we were going back. As far as i'm concerned that's a result and was well worth it.

Ajax fan here. I was in Glasgow this week for the game and I had a great time. Had a few pints in the city, and met a many very nice Celtic fans. The people were very friendly. That is why I find it so strange to read all this negative nonsense about us on this forum. First of all, the football vision of many Celts on this forum is pretty strange. I read that you 'wiped the floor with Ajax', and played a very great game. In all honesty I think both sides didn't play well, but Ajax definitely had the better of the game. They had the best chances, while Celtic created virtually none. You scored from a penalty and a deflected shot; hardly created a chance. Celtic also gave away a lot of space, but Celtic were lucky that our wingers played a terrible game. Fischer: worst game I saw him play ever. So in conclusion, both teams didn't play a great game but Ajax definitely deserved more if you ask me.
As for the fans, I think we created a great atmosphere. I had a great time in the away section with my mates. We shouted our lungs out and supported our team all through the game. The chairthrowing was done by at most 20 guys, and there were provocations from the Celtic section all game. The nonsense I read about it being a family section is ridiculous. There were many grown up folks provoking us. There were even 2 faggots in Twente gear, showing us insulting texts and flipping us off. I didn't like them either, I got mad as well, but some of our guys were a bit more hotheaded than most of us. But to be honest, what happened in the stadium, wasn't that big of a deal and it only lasted for about 5 minutes.
And as for the fighting in the city, some of our hooligans, which make up only a small part of our fans, probably not even 5%, were looking for fights in the city. But do not be so * hypocritical about it, like all your guys are saints. When I walked to the stadium I had to chuck in my Ajax scarf because there was a group of about 30 Celtic hooligans with ski-masks and * waiting for the group of Ajax fans. After the game I also saw Celtic hooligans looking for trouble. Hooliganism is just part of the sport, there's not too much you can do about it. To be quite frank, I did have quite a laugh when I heard from some Vak 410 lads on the boat how they escaped Glasgow cops and freed one of their mates who had cuffs on. They had to buy a saw to free him from the cuffs. Sure it's not the right behavior, but at the end of the day they are just some lads looking for a bit of sensation, and nothing really awful happened in Glasgow. I was in Hamburg a few years back, those were some major riots; the atmosphere was grim. In Glasgow the overall atmosphere was very friendly if you ask me, at least from what I saw fans of both teams got along great. But there's always gonna be a little bit of action going on between fans in big games like this one. It's part of football, if you don't like it you should maybe choose another sport to attend to. I do not condone violence but I do ask you not to be such hypocrits about this, every team has got its rotten apples and most of us had a wonderful time with the Celtic fans.
For the ones of you who are coming to Amsterdam in 2 weeks, I wish you a pleasant time. Good post tbh, I dunno much about the hooliganism from Celtic or the Celtic fans being dickheads cos I haven't been following the topic at all, but I do agree that a lot of heads on here were overrating Celtic's performance. I thought we were awful in the 1st half, but better in the 2nd. However we didn't play great, and we didn't create that many chances. I'm delighted with the win don't get me wrong, but that was probably the worst we have played in the CL. For me, it was a pretty * and boring watch.

Saying that, Ajax did not impress me at all and they looked extremely average. I expected them to be a bit better tbh. Like others have said, most of the possession you had was between the two center backs and your goalkeeper. Overall you probably had the better chances but I think at the end of the day Celtic deserved the victory. I felt very comfortable throughout the ENTIRE game, a feeling I do not often have when Celtic play in the CL. Ajax posed no threat. We will beat you lot away btw

I agree with you. At the moment Ajax is weak. We have a very youthful team with a lot of talent, but you can't expect talents to play excellently every match. We have to sell our best players every season, and start more or less from scratch. Frank builds a new team after the transfer window closes and every year it has taken a while for the new talents stand up, and fulfill the role that the guys who left had. Ajax' style has always been to dominate posession, and create a lot of chances. At the moment our team is capable to do the former, the latter has been a problem last few matches. Losing Christian Eriksen has proven to be very problematic, you can't expect his replacement (Lerin Duarte/Thulani Serero) to instantly play at his level, since Eriksen is just worldclass. With Bojan injured, and Fischer out of form, Sigthorsson doesn't get the crosses that a striker like him needs to score goals. Our captain, Siem de Jong, is struggling to find his form since his injury. All this means that we lack the creativity to create enough chances and score goals. However, I think our team is very eager to prove that it can do better against Celtic in Amsterdam. That, combined with the current away record in Europe of Celtic, makes me feel quite comfortable about the CL match against Celtic.

It's fair to say that all clubs have a few bad eggs and it shouldn't be used to tarnish he whole support.

It was good to have fans at our stadium who sang and chanted their hearts out....Ajax fans are passionate about their club and showed that on Tuesday.

Good initial post Superjood.

The reactions can largely be put down to the wide difference in the game here compared to most of Europe in terms of the hooligan and Ultra scene - * even just the fan scene in general. Football over here is sanitised to the extreme and under complete control of the police therefore when we have visits from a support like Ajax or hsv it’s an eye opener for many – they are not used to it and consequently overreact as you have read.
