It's not a ridiculous thread at all. We're not talking about signing players based on ethnicity. We're talking about which markets are best for us to shop in.

    No, they're not.

If there's a suitable player in any market, should we go after them? Yes. Do you get value for money in all markets (as a general rule)? No. Do you get better value for money in some markets (as a general rule)? Yes.

Therefore, it makes sense for us to focus on certain markets and bringing through youth players if we want to make large profits. That's not to say there won't be the odd gem in over-inflated markets (Forster, Matthews).

Don't really care although IMO english players are overrated and over priced

also why is Pukki and Balde used as an example in the opening post?

If there is a player in any market, which we want, at an available price.....that is all that matters.

Do we stop scouting in other markets? Are Championship players overpriced? Do we stop scouting there?

We scout in ALL markets and look to pick up the best buys there. Which is why the thread is ridiculous.

I think you're missing the point. I've actually agreed in all my posts that we shouldn't limit ourselves to certain markets. What I will say is I'd rather we spent £3m on an unknown 17 year-old from Croatia than Kevin * Doyle. :smiley-laughing002: Like it or not, our scouts focus on particular leagues for the simple fact that you can't scout every single player in the world. We've had success in scouting the Israeli league in recent years (Kayal, Ambrose and Biton)... it's no coincidence that all three signed under Lennon. That's where we're looking because we know there are talented players there who are under the radar of most big clubs so we can nip in, get them cheap and make a profit. Or do you think these three just happened to be the best fit out of all the players in all the leagues in the world? :smiley-laughing002:

A Basque cantera in Glasgow. I like it. :50:

In all seriousness, Athletic Club are a great example of what you can achieve with those limitations.

I think Barcelona have the perfect mix. How much did they pay for Xavi, Iniesta and Messi?

The 3 Israeli's? See their agent.....

You'd rather we spent £3m on an unknown from Croatia than Doyle? Honestly?? That is * absolute gross stupidity and not worth debating with.

Our Scouts absolutely do NOT focus on particular leagues. Which is why we've brought in players from Latvia, Italy, Czech Republic etc. We Scout in all markets...UK and abroad, picking up the best buys...and that is the way it should stay.

As long as our scouts go down all possible avenues. It's o.k. By me! We need to tap into every market. This is where we are 10 years behind!:50:

Aye, no bother. You're talking pish again.

£3m on an unknown who may well be a world beater (obviously we'd have * scouted him ) or Kevin Doyle who we know is * and is not worth 3 * pounds, let alone £3m? You're the one showing gross * stupidity if you'd opt for the latter.

You obviously have no idea how scouting works. Dudu Dahan obviously works in a quasi-scouting role for Celtic; that much is plainly * obvious. He recommends players (albeit ones he has a vested interest in) in a market of which he has great knowledge.

A hypothetical Croatian, who we may, or may not, have scouted...and I'm talking pish? :icon_mrgreen:

We scout in ALL markets and find value in them....What do you disagree with?
