For a wee while there I actually thought Manchester Utd were going to do the unthinkable and sneak through. No questioin that the better team has gone through in the end though.

Hope the final is a Madrid derby now. Just to add something extra to the game, with Atletico winning it.

You have to take your hat off to Atletico and Diego Simeone. To lose one of the world's best strikers, your top goalscorer and best player in Falcao, and be having this good a season is quite remarkable. Said it for while now, but they are the hardest working team I've seen, and last night only confirmed that even more to me. I've never seen Barclona being forced into so many long balls. When Barca start going long, you are definitely doing somethng right, and are half way to winning in my opinion. It also helps when you keep Messi almost non existent for the whole game, which they did.

Hopefully they go on and win at least one of the trophies they are still playing for, I think they have deserved it this season.

 

Under Diego Simeone Messi has played them 5 times and not scored once. That's practically unheard of.

 

It's because ecerytime he gets the ball there is a wall Infront of him. It's like being in a closed room with the walls closing in on you. Barcelona needed to speed up there play last night and use the attention on Messi to creat space for other players. Bit even that was difficult. They were formidable defensively last night. As I argued on FB last night, any top player would have struggled against them last night.

 

Last night wasn't an exception though either, they perhaps played with an extra incentive due to the significance of the game, but Atletico play like that in almost every game. It's the main reason they have the best defensive record in La Liga, conceding only 22 goals in 32 games, a quite phenomenal record. They put so much effort into every performance, and that goes for all over the pitch. Defend from the front springs to mind.

 

Courtois is eligible to play for Atletico if they draw Chelsea, but they'd have to pay £2.5m for each game.

 

Would be worth every penny
