We signed Wanyama from Germinal Beerschot and Hooper from Scunthorpe, for *'s sake. :smiley-laughing002: They were hardly world beaters.

Any squad player or bench warmer at Ajax or Schalke would walk into those sides and without a doubt be the best player at the club (if the Belgian side hadn't gone the way of Rangers).

I know. I like to think I am usually one of the more optimistic fans and like your good self I am keen to defend the kind of "sack the manager" type knee jerks you get on here after a bad result or two. But despite the positive result mid week I am just feeling pretty pessimistic about celtic (and football) over the last couple of months. I think we are going backwards. Wish I didnt think it but I do.

It's something we're going to have to get used to as fans for a while. Our best players will leave and they'll be replaced by players who are not the finished article but may turn out to be top players -- maybe even better than the ones who have left.

In a few seasons time, with regular Champions League football, we can go out and spend money on proven talent to replace those who leave, but it's not our financial reality at present.

Give it time man. Van Dijk showed lots of potential today.

Derk less so, but Lenny touched on the point that the ground was dry, sticky and bobbly today and didn't suit the skillful players on either side.

Derks little cameo at CP was much more indicative of what he can do I think.

Pukki comes with a good pedigree, from a club in the CL and was only not able to break into the team because of a certain striker named Huntelaar.

Biton was a target for Man City but they couldn't get a work permit so he must have something about him.

I personally think these are exciting times, I would prefer not selling the spine of our team in one window but sometimes players want to leave and you can't stand in their way unfortunately.

Age means what exactly? doesnt make them good/bad/indiferent mate.

Not every player that comes from those leagues are great.

They are good. They will improve our team straight away. If they can do it in the Bundesliga/Eredivisie and Israeli leagues then they can do it in the SPFL.

We wouldn't be spending around upwards of 2 million per player if they weren't going to improve the team straight away. Biton like Rogic might be a squad player but he could be the next Wanyama.

If the window shut right now would you be happy with this squad ? I think we have done some great business.

Obviously not but they have all came from the better sides in these leagues. They have scored goals and played well in these leagues. Van Dijk was in the Eredivisie team of the year. We have signed quality there is no doubt about it.

Not every players from any league is great. Every transfer carries some risk.

I think his point was that it's a big step up from looking at english championship players and completely unknown quantities.

    What ? :smiley-laughing002:

    A ''6 million pound player''

A price tag isn't a barometer of quality.

Only gloryhunters want to see money splashed around like it's made on trees.

I'm delighted with our current transfer policy and I feel our team is stronger than it was this time last year.

Not to be negative but I trade them all for Hooper, Wanyama and Wilson.

That's a very naive statement; Juárez & Bangura come to mind. Price tag's aren't everything!
