Agreed, but it's about time we got wise to this kind of thing in Europe. Consistency isn't so much of an issue with these refs, as soon as they see the high boots/studs showing they're reaching for the red card. Just the way it is.

    You're one of them.

I think if the ref sent one of our players off for violent conduct for blowing on a players ear, you'd be one of the first with your tongue up his *.

    Enjoy :yeltongue

Looked bad at the game, but saw the replay back, no way that is a straight red!

Straight red for sure. Bit of a shame but too dangerous when you're that high off the ground and tackling at that speed.

    Never a straight red.

Wasn't a two footed challenge, and there was zero contact.

I'm getting * off with people condoning play acting because of histrionics.

Here's the question...... Should we adopt the same attitude?

Diving and rolling about as if you've been shot seems the way to go.

    Unfortunately, there's mileage in cheating.

    Stunned silence.

His quick sending off was so strange.

Yellow, definitely ... I'm not so sure it was deserving of a red.

Completely sucked the life outta Celtic Park just before a massive victory probably unlike anything I can remember in recent memory.

I don't think anybody who agrees with the decision was influenced by Serero.

Also, people should read the FIFA rules. Nowhere does it mandate that a challenge has to be two-footed. Nowhere does it mandate that there has to be contact. FIFA has, in the last 3 years or so, been attempting to clamp down on the threat of injury by issuing red cards for potentially leg-breaking tackles even if no contact whatsoever is made. In any case, it's a judgement call, so there can be no objective statement of "that's not a red card." Again, Serero's histrionics shouldn't be seen as having played a part.

If we didn't win last night, everyone would be going mental and blaming the ref for the red card. Easy to sit back and accept when you've won.

Silly tackle, but the fact there was no contact and no harm, a yellow was enough.

I don't believe that's true. People would just be angrier at him. Also, as has already been stated, contact is not required for a sending off. It's in the judgement of the ref and, when dealing with continental referees, you never want to put it in their hands.

"It was a red card all day long"? Like I said, your tongue would be minging a' * if you were anywhere near that ref's *.

But if it's a judgement call, then it's down to the ref's opinion on whether it deemed a dangerous tackle.

Agreed, my point isn't that it's an objectively good call. Just that, from what I've seen from the continent, refs are starting to clamp down on lunging tackles in an attempt to prevent injuries rather than the old m.o. of punishing brutal collisions. Is it a red in Scotland? Probably not, and I'd likely be frustrated in an SPL match since I think it'd be out of character. Saying that, I think this is just a sign of a young guy being a bit naive and trying to impress too much.

I do agree with what they're doing though and I've seen similar red cards given before. The grey area that I see though is that there's a precedent, so just don't let the ref make that decision. If you're trying to stop play just run the guy over, but in Europe please don't leave your feet with your studs showing. Even if you don't make contact. Even if it's only one leg. You still open up yourself to the continental interpretation.
