Visiting Glasgow

Hi everybody,

I am going to visit Glasgow in October (13.-17.) and after that Edinburgh (17.-20.). Of course I am going to the Scotland vs Croatia match.

So I have few questions:

1. The best way getting from Glasgow International Airport to Glasgow City Center or to my hostel (65 Berkeley Street - Bluesky hostel)?
2. Is there any option of buying 3 day public transport tickets or smth similiar which include bus/subway/train (or combination of two)?
3. Is it possible to visit Johnnie Walker distillery (tour etc.)?

And most important one:
4. Hibs vs Celtic 19th October - is it possible to buy 3 away tickets - It is my dream to see Hoops playing, so I would be very thankful if somebody can help me with this? And I'll buy beers for that person :icon_mrgreen:

Dont know about options 2 or 3 and the tickets for the Hibs game you will probably have to wait until nearer the time. Maybe 2 or 3 weeks before the match.

There's an express bus that runs directly from the airport to the city centre bus station on Buchanan street. Info on that can be found here;

Berkeley street is a twenty minute walk from the bus station.

As for your travel questions, most of them can be answered in the link above.

 

You could definitely get tickets for the hibs home end.

 

Unless he comes over from Zagreb to watch Hibs he won't, you have to be on the database to get tickets in the Hibs end for Category A games.

Just a question Hibby, what's the database? I'd assume a regular at Easter Road.

It's a pain in the *, although I reckon the extra security costs of letting Celtic or Sevco fans sit amongst the home fans would eat up the profit anyway. Also bare in mind lots of Hibs fans wouldn't go if the club let the home stands become a free for all.

Anyone who's bought tickets for non Category A games (Hearts, Celtic, Sevco), a season ticket or an away game is put on the database. This allows them to get tickets for Category A matches (Hearts, Celtic, Sevco). I guess the OP could get tickets for another Hibs game first but that's some effort.

Tbh I can sort of see why they do it even if it's not ideal. The last time they turned a blind eye to who was sitting where (the time Rangers won the league at Easter Road) everyone was kicking the * out of each other. At one point a Hibs fan got lifted for reacting to a gloating hun, and to rub salt on the wound as he was getting carried away other Hibs fans assumed he was a hun getting thrown out so started coining him. It's just not worth it.

 

Another alternative would be to actually put out a team that Hibs fans are willing to pay to see. Last season when we beat Celtic to go top of the league there was 18k there. Probably a bit radical for our powers that be though.

 

Aye mate I can understand why the hibbys wouldn't want other fans in amongst them. I was in the Hibs end way back when some * let off tear gas, must be 20 years ago now. There was no hassle with the hibbys next to me until the tear gas was set off, then everybody was blaming each other. I remember we paid in at the gate that day, celtic end was full so we paid to go into Hibs end. Changed days.

 

Back in the day the Hibs casuals were feared across the land (the whole of the UK btw) and were absolutely bonkers :smiley-laughing002:

On topic: Don't know about any JW distilleries anymore as the only one i knew in Kilmarnock closed last year after being bought over

 

The 747 airport bus runs past your hostel, get off around charging cross and you're a few mins walk from there. As for the transport ticket, I don't know about Edinburgh but for Glasgow, don't know about a 3 day ticket but depending on what you are doing it may be cheaper to price it daily....£19.80 for unlimited travel on train, bus and subway and some ferries too, could but that one day if your moving around then just get an all day bus ticket or similar the next which is cheaper but still gets you around greater Glasgow.

Don't have much knowledge of whisky I'm afraid, although if you can't get to a distillery there are a few whisky tours of pubs in Glasgow that are supposed to be good.

Hibs ticket? Ask for 4 and ill come with you

 

You can do a tour of the Johnnie Walker distillery but it's away up in Morayshire which is between Aberdeen and Inverness so it'll be hard to get to I'd imagine

So is it possible to buy a ticket at the gate (for hibs home end) or even to buy ticket in front of the stadium from someone or they ask for your ID at the gate?

And will I have any problems if I enter the stadium in Celtic top (Hibs home end)?

 

Apologies, I checked it and Hibs were actually 9 behind at that point. I had it in my head that the 1-0 game was a month or so earlier, when Hibs were top of the league in November.
