Did Schalke not sign another striker/forward for around 5 million euros at the start of the season (Salali or something similar). Doesn`t favour Pukki much, although what I`ve seen of him (very brief viewing) he appears to have a bit about him.

I live in Norway. I know how the Scottish league is seen outside Scotland. I also know that practically everyone in the Nordic countries has a massive hard-on for the EPL, that they read English-language football media and that they are not immune to the taken-for-granted talking down of Scottish football in such media. Norwegians, Swedes and Finns have a clear fondness for English football - I wouldn't describe them as neutrals as you are implying.

Saying "mid-table clubs can't even compete with Swedish clubs" is a massive generalisation because some Allsvenskan teams (e.g. AIK, Elfsborg) are far better than others. You might as well say "Finnish clubs can't even compete with Scottish clubs" because Celtic beat HJK. Obviously there is a diversity of quality in any first tier.

Inverness and St Mirren are undoubtedly better than any team in the English third tier. You are of course entitled to your subjective opinion in this matter, and it's almost impossible to settle one way or the other.

    Partick, incidentally, are newly promoted.

Probably him. Scored 12 goals in the Bundesliga, might have been Mainz.

Thanks for that. Is that your entire contribution on the matter, or would you like to actually discuss it further?

I wouldn't mind. There are several teams in England's third tier that are better than teams in the SPL. For example: Peterborough are better than Partick Thistle and Wolves are better than Ross County. To say no SPL team is as bad as any league 1 team is ridiculous.

    See, now we're getting somewhere.

Partick are newly promoted, so let's just ignore them, shall we?

In general, it's fair to say that the vast majority of SPL teams are better than the vast majority of English third tier teams. I'll grant you a pedantic victory on my generalisation.

Considering the likelihood of an SPL team playing against an English third tier team is infinitesimal, it's about an abstract comparison of two leagues as you can get, and one that I think is informed more by hype of English football (and corresponding denigration of Scottish football) than by actual football facts.

But, you know, that's, like, just my opinion, man.

Sure you can take Partick Thistle out and replace them with about 5 or 6 other teams and the point would still stand. It's not a pedantic victory, your point was nowhere near correct, and it's nothing to do with hype either.

And how, exactly, is that so?

No SPL team has played a team from the English third tier recently enough for it to even count. Frankly, it's a comparison that can't be tested either way.

Stating I'm wrong because you fervently believe it is not the same as proving your point with facts, figures and other tools that may actually prove the assertion you're making.

He is a good striker yes. Smart signing by Schalke.

Time to get back on topic please. This is not the place for which league is better debate.

I don't think you need a particularly robust testing system to say that for example, a team including Roger Johnson, Jamie O'hara, Leigh Griffiths and Kevin Doyle is better than the majority of SPL sides. Just as you don't have to be a particularly avid follower of League 1 to see that the majority of teams would be at least a match for your run-of-the-mill SPL teams.
It just stands to reason when they could conceivably have their pick of the top SPL talent if they chose and bigger teams weren't interested (Like Danny Swanson moving to Peterborough) . Whereas you would never ever see any SPL team sign a top talent from league 1.

Aye, The English Championship was an under-rated League id say. An probably only 2 SPL teams (us being 1) would finish in the top 10 of League 1.

Someone on here said something about him from the Austrian League like "I bet we'll end up with some * from the Championship", I thought it was Ironic as the Championship is a better League than the Austrian League.

Didn't Hibs sign one of the top scorers from league 1 for something like £200K? Now I'm not saying he was a top talent as I've not seen enough of his game to fortify an opinion but its still an impressive catch going by the standards the lesser teams in our league generally bring in.

James Collins, yeah I was impressed by that signing too, but if he was one of the top players in the league, he wouldn't be going to an SPL team for £200,000.
